Can someone list Obama's accomplishments so far?
I'm very dispirited over his failures up to now.

Are we supporting him just because he's not a Republican?
Is that all that's needed to build support?
Personally, I need a better reason than that and I'll bet a lot of other people feel the same way.

I want to continue to support him but only if he has earned it. Has he?

Are there accomplishments that I'm not giving him credit for?

1. some of his more loyal supporters have floated around a long list.
not much substantive on it, and many items aren't really his accomplishments.

I too am disappointed.

To some extent, your satisfaction will depend on your definition of "accomplishment" and on your willingness to split hairs over what he did or didn't really promise in 2008.

6. Yes. A long list of accomplishments, keeping most of his promises...
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/

The list works well if you equate "Increase funding to expand community based prevention programs" with "Health care reform with a robust public option".

3. Here you go!
Passed and implemented a Recovery Act that as multiple reports have verified not only saved the economy from the brink but also funded up to 2 million American jobs.

Provided tax cuts for 95 percent of working families.

Rebuilt an economy that is growing for the first time in over a year.

Cut job losses from almost 800,000 a month to 20,000 a month.

Made the largest investment in green technology in history.

Made the largest investment in education in history.

Lifted the ban on stem cell research and restored science to its rightful place.

Raised fuel standards after years of stagnation and objection.

Ended predatory credit card practices.

Made equal pay for equal work more than a platitude with the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.

Expanded health coverage to 4 million more low income American children with the expansion of SCHIP.

Expanded benefits for loving couples that work at the State Department.

Lifted the discriminatory, inhumane and unwise ban on immigration of those with HIV/AIDS.

Started a process to end the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy to allow patriotic Americans to serve and be true to themselves while we fight two wars.

Begun to responsibly wind down the war in Iraq.

Implemented a new way forward in Afghanistan in the face of withering criticism from the right and the left.

Enhanced American security by repairing our alliances and by restoring the rule of law and our standing in the world.

Successfully managed the outbreak of the H1N1 epidemic.

Prohibited lobbyists from serving on important boards and commissions.

Banned federal lobbyists and political action committees from contributing to the DNC.

Enhanced transparency by making all visitors who enter the White House and the names of those with whom they met publicly available.

20. misleading list
multiple sources = multiple administration and DLC sources

"restored science to its rightful place" is laughably overstated, check out the new national creationist science text books for science's actual place.

"largest green investment" is FAR FAR FAR FAR short of his promised revolutionary green economy and making the US the world leader in the new green economy

Prohibited lobbyists from serving... except when he didn't--he made numerous exceptions, plus he has done less than nothing to slow the influence of lobbyists in our government, which was his real campaign issue, and which is worse now than ever. This item is an example of moving the goal post after the fact.

Enhanced transparency... except for those secret meetings with Pharma and insurance execs that we didn't know about until six months (and irreperable damage) later, not to mention his new secret health care meeting proposals. Come to think of it, I haven't seen *any* Obama meeting on C-SPAN...

Successfully managed the H1N1 flu outbreak--*really!?* I mean *really!?* Other than the fact that there was no vaccine except for the stuff that caused neurological damage, just what "managing" did he do?

I could go on, but this is time consuming--easy, but time consuming.

Yes. GOP "accomplishments" (other than their parochial partisan success at stopping nearly everything) are zero, but even mentioning them in the list is an example of "false choice" fallacy. You don't get to say "drink our piss, it's so much better than their shit" and have rational people believe you're serving up pale ale.

I hope he comes around; we desperately need him to, but Obama's first year was an epic failure.

23. You are moving goalposts.

Is transparency better now or before? Now. Visitor records have never been so accessible. Is there still work to be done? yes, but there is no arguing it was better before.

Same thing with green investment. Did he invest in green technology or not? He did. You do not get to say this is not an accomplishment just because you feel it isn't enough.

Also, which flu vaccine are you suggesting caused neurological problems? Please tell me you aren't referring to the debunked cheerleader nonsense.

Finally, you'll have to provide a link to your point on Creationist textbooks. Im very interested in these "national textbooks" since textbooks are chosen by the local school boards.

His accomplishments are listed. There's another list in the Obama forum that is a little more user friendly, but here's a list of legislation, EO, memos, that he has signed has created real change.

32. Obama has done some good things -
- but some of the negative things he's done and the critically important things he hasn't done tend to make it all seem like pacifying tokenism.

The fact that Obama has retained much of the Bush Administration behind the scenes, including the lawyers who facilitated a lot of BushCo's crimes, and that he has diligently avoided making any effort to hold any member of the Bush Administration accountable for the massive damage they've done to this nation and its people, vastly outweighs the value of the good things he's done. All of the good things Obama has done will be worth absolutely nothing if another criminal administration comes to power and is encouraged by the examples of impunity Obama is directly responsible for.

Accountability for offenses is a deterrent. No accountability means no deterrent.
