Baptist Pastor Says He Prayed Murtha to Death
Murtha was actually anti-abortion, so I don't really know what this asshole's problem was.

http://totalbuzz.freedomblogging.com/2010/02/09/buena-park-pastor-prayed-for-murthas-death/29903/

Southern Baptist Pastor Wiley Drake of Buena Park sent out an email Monday night, saying that perhaps his prayers had been answered with the death of Rep. John Murtha yesterday.

“Maybe God took him out,” Drake wrote. “Maybe God Answered our IMPRECATORY prayer that we prayed every 30 days.”

The Pennsylvania congressman, a decorated former Marine who fiercely opposed the Iraq war, died at the age of 77 after complications from gallbladder surgery.

I asked Drake if his statements weren’t distasteful, particularly coming immediately after Murtha’s death. He said that as a Christian, he didn’t buy into the sentiment of not speaking ill of the dead.

9. real Christians are known by their actions, and I have seen such grace from those you'll never see
in the news, like this weirdo is. Good people go humbly about their good works and never ask for anything in return. Don't allow yourself to think someone who is as repulsive as this wicked person is could possibly be like the people who stand out in the cold handing blankets to the homeless vets and women & children who have nothing. This guy sounds like he prays for their deaths too.

Murtha was 77 yrs old... I don't think he can take much credit anyhow. What a raving loon. And wherever he is, I hope some good ol progressives embarrass him with some crafty signs. I'd love to be nearby! I'd show up with one or two on the Sabbath calling him out for the wicked person he is in asking for the death of another human being.

15. I can count the "real" Christians I've met on the fingers of one hand.
NONE of them went around proclaiming how much of a Christian they were. And none of them would ever pray for someone's death much less be public about it.

This "preacher" is just another scam artist in the world's oldest profession.

41. The other thing that bothers me about the self-proclaimed "Christians"
out there doing "good things"...

How many of them would still be doing good, helping the sick and poor, if they didn't have their religion telling them that's what they're supposed to do?

How many of them would do good without expecting anything...oh, let's say conversion in return?

How many of them would do good just because it needs to be done?

I'm suspicious of people who help others because there might be something to gain in the end.

because of the action of a few decent people among them.

There are good humans to be found, even among the ranks of the "religious", but the religion does not cause the good.

20. don't tell me to stop doing something I never implied. And in reverse, there are a few indecent
murderous thugs amongst the Christians, not the other way around. I have yet to hear of anyone I've went to church with over the decades be charged for any type of murderous crime. But, don't let that stand in the way of your intolerance, which can be a two-way street.

I call out that asshat as much as the rest of us, and he is in on the con, which is to use belief in a higher power for wealth/money, and thousands have done it and still do it. Parsley, Hagee, etc...

32. Most of the good "Christians" I've known have been Buddhists or
atheists. The self-styled "Christians" I've known were mostly not what they claimed to be. Paulists, perhaps, but not Christian in any measurable way. Most have not read through Matthew in years.

24. A "Christian" wouldn't be praying for someone to die because they don't like them.
A Christian would pray for them to be well, live a good life, and do good things with their time.

This is what is wrong with religion today. If the Southern Baptists really were what they pretend to be (Christians) the organization would denounce this sort of thing. But instead, they will likely do nothing, which pretty much endorses this type of thinking.

Perhaps this is why fewer people identify themselves as Christians today.

48. He didn't? What about these verses?
# Jesus says that he has come to destroy families by making family members hate each other. He has "come not to send peace, but a sword." Matt. 10:34-36

# Jesus condemns entire cities to dreadful deaths and to the eternal torment of hell because they didn't care for his preaching. Matt. 11:20-24

# Jesus tells us what he has planned for those that he dislikes. They will be cast into an "everlasting fire." Matt. 25:41

# Jesus says the damned will be tormented forever. Matt. 25:46

# Jesus explains why he speaks in parables: to confuse people so they will go to hell. Mark 4:11-12

# Jesus sends devils into 2000 pigs, causing them to jump off a cliff and be drowned in the sea. When the people hear about it, they beg Jesus to leave. Mark 5:12-13

# Any city that doesn't "receive" the followers of Jesus will be destroyed in a manner even more savage than that of Sodom and Gomorrah. Mark 6:11

# Jesus criticizes the Jews for not killing their disobedient children as required by Old Testament law. (See Ex.21:15, Lev.20:9, Dt.21:18-21) Mark 7:9-10

# If you're ashamed of Jesus, he'll be ashamed of you. (And you'll go straight to hell.) Mark 8:38

# Jesus tells us to cut off our hands and feet, and pluck out our eyes to avoid going to hell. Mark 9:43-49

# Jesus says that those that believe and are baptized will be saved, while those who don't will be damned. Mark 16:16

# According to Jesus, only a few will be saved; the vast majority will suffer eternally in hell where "there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." Luke 13:23-30

# In the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, the rich man goes to hell, because as Abraham explains, he had a good life on earth and so now he will be tormented. Whereas Lazarus, who was miserable on earth, is now in heaven. This seems fair to Jesus. Luke 16:19-31

# Jesus believed the story of Noah's ark. He thought it really happened and had no problem with the idea of God drowning everything and everybody. Luke 17:26-27

# Jesus also believes the story about Sodom's destruction. He says, "even thus shall it be in the day the son of man is revealed ... Remember Lot's wife." This tells us about Jesus' knowledge of science and history, and his sense of justice. Luke 17:29-32

# In the parable of the talents, Jesus says that God takes what is not rightly his, and reaps what he didn't sow. The parable ends with the words: "bring them hither, and slay them before me." Luke 19:22-27

# Jesus believed the stupid and vicious story from Numbers 21. (God sent snakes to bite the people for complaining about the lack of foood and water, and then God told Moses to make a brass snake to cure them from the bites.) John 3:14

# As an example to parents everywhere and to save the world (from himself), God had his own son tortured and killed. John 3:16

# People are damned or saved depending only on what they believe. John 3:18, 36

# The "wrath of God" is on all unbelievers. John 3:36

# Jesus believes people are crippled by God as a punishment for sin. He tells a crippled man, after healing him, to "sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee." John 5:14

# Those who do not believe in Jesus will be cast into a fire to be burned. John 15:6

# Jesus says we must eat his flesh and drink his blood if we want to have eternal life. This idea was just too gross for "many of his disciples" and "walked no more with him." John 6:53-66

# Jesus will take "vengeance on them that know not God" by burning them forever "in flaming fire." 2 Thess 1:7-9

# Jesus will "consume" the wicked "with the spirit of his mouth." 2 Thess. 2:8

# God will cause us to believe lies so that he can damn our souls to hell. 2 Thess. 2:11-12

===============================
Jesus looks pretty hateful and vindictive from these verses.

But then we are not sure if Jesus really existed. I think it's academic.
