"BBC man Ray Gosling admits killing Aids-suffering lover "
"I picked up the pillow and smothered him until he was dead.
"The doctor came back and I said: 'He's gone.' Nothing more was ever said.
"When you love someone, it is difficult to see them suffer. My feelings on euthanasia are like jelly - they wobble about.

bbc, http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/nottinghamshire/8516499.stm
and update on investigations, http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/nottinghamshire/8517800.stm

euthanasia is one of those subjects that usually unchains passions, debate and even hatred among people, because it has to do with the questions of a "right to die" with dignity and of "what is life".
in this case they will investigate about the real will of the victim, and it will be impossible to state if he asked his lover to do it or not and on and on.

but i agree with something mr gosling said. "When you love someone, it is difficult to see them suffer".

1. Some doctors are "generous" with morphine
When an elderly friend of mine was dying from cancer, her doctor gave her husband "plenty" of morphine and even went out of his way to "warn" walter what "might be too much".. It was all done with care, and I never asked if he helped her or not, but I think he may have..and I know my friend would have wanted him to help her..

6. that's pretty much how it went down with my dad
except the doc himself administered "too much" morphine. We had a talk with him and he said he could increase the morphine but he "warned" us that it would result in dad's death. We asked him to do it.

8. Good doctors have always done this..with little or no fanfare
and with trustworthy family members of patients, I'm sure it's done a LOT.. There was never going to be an autopsy for my friend..78 yrs old... 3rd recurrence of breast cancer, so why not ease her way out?

We do it all the time for the pets we love, so why should we have to watch our human loved-ones suffer needlessly.

2. Sometimes a spouse/lover/parent actually begs their doc or a loved one to end their suffering...
... and it's beyond cruel when their wishes cannot be granted without another being charged with murder. Who knows what went on between these two?

4. arrested on suspicion of murder:
Police are questioning the presenter over his claims.

A police spokesman said: "A 70-year-old Nottingham man was arrested earlier on suspicion of murder following comments made on the BBC's Inside Out programme on Monday evening."
