Sarah Palin Vs. The Family Guy
I know this is a story that broke yesterday, but I did want to get the opinions of DU members. So, what is your take on Sarah Palin taking on "The Family Guy" over the fact that they made fun of people with Down Syndrome? I am not a fan of "The Family Guy" and have never really been a fan.

My major issue with Palin taking on the show is the fact that as Seth McFarlane has said the "show is an equal opportunity offender". However, Palin has never had a problem with the show before. I guess a person can watch a particular episode of a show and be offended by the show as a result of that episode, but as I mentioned earlier "The Family Guy" has always been fairly offensive. I am not trying to bash Palin for criticizing the show. I am just questioning her timing and sincerity of her criticism of the show.

In addition, how about how the media is claiming the eyeglasses the girl wore on the show are Palinesque? How many things is the media going to give Palin credit for. As far as I know there are a number of people who wear glasses similar to those worn by Sarah Palin. However, the glasses the girl was wearing on the show look nothing like the glasses worn by Sarah Palin. I actually checked google pictures of Sarah Palin and the two types of glasses look different.

2. I think Sarah Palin is clueless
You don't "take on" satirists. Because they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience, as the saying goes.

Seriously, you're going to "go to war" with Seth McFarlane? John Stewart? Matt Groeing? Well then you've already lost, because you're showing a distinct inability to shrug it off, and are clearly demonstrating that they've hooked you

3. It sounds like whining
"I say this with all due respect to Hillary Clinton... but when I hear a statement like that coming from a woman candidate with any kind of perceived whine about that excess criticism or you know maybe a sharper microscope put on her, I think you know that doesn't do us any good – women in politics, women in general wanting to progress this country."

4. I'm not a Family Guy fan, either,
but I watched the clip, and I didn't see anything mocking DS people in it. If anything, it ran counter to stereotypes.

As the poster above said, Sarah is a hypocrite.

5. If Rush can use satire, they can use satire.
She can admit she doesn't know what satire is.

6. Anyone who thinks the show was ripping on Sarah Palin didn't watch the episode.
Much like Sarah.

Of course any publicity is good publicity to her.

7. Get your facts right, first
The point of the Family Guy episode - which I watched, unlike its many critics - is that intellectually disabled people aren't different at all; they're just like everyone else. No jokes were made at the expense of the high school girl with Down's Syndrome, whose voice actress has Down's Syndrome. The character was independent, opinionated and her own person, not a cuddly-wuddly feel-good stereotype.

13. That's how I took it too
She was a strong female character and her only two flaws, which had absolutely nothing to do with Down's Syndrome, were:

1. Her mom
2. She wasn't nice to Chris

9. I have a similar pair (but with rhinestones)
The style is usually called harlequin or kit-kat. Tina Fey's are a variant of the style.

I also wear half-and-halfs (torti with wire) - does this mean I'm making fun of Malcom X?
