What happens to folks who pirate movies
Grandview man gets two years in movie pirating case

A Grandview man who was caught videotaping a Batman movie in a theater has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for selling counterfeit DVDs.

Robert L. Henderson will not be eligible for parole under the sentence imposed Friday in federal court in Kansas City. He must also pay nearly $25,000 in restitution to the Motion Picture Association of America.

Henderson, 42, pleaded guilty in October to criminal copyright infringement.

Henderson admitted taking a video camera into a Lee's Summit movie theater and taping "The Dark Knight" in its opening weekend in July 2008. The Motion Picture Association had sent investigators to the theater. They said Henderson attracted attention by wearing a winter coat despite the summer heat.

13. it is a form of misappropriation of intellectual property
labelling it theft is not inappropriate. Theft is a generic term that can and is appropriately applied to a variety of misappropriations. I'm sure you've heard of "identity theft" -- referred to as theft even though you still have your identity after it happens.

14. Sounds Like Someone Dropped A Dime...
The investigators just happened to be in the theater? :sarcasm:

My bets are he was doing this regularly and someone turned him in. You play with fire, don't be surprised when you get burned.
