My email to Senator Bunning....
I went to his website and sent this....

Mr. Bunning,

What are you thinking? A one man stand preventing extending unemployment benefits. Good for you.... your going to affect MILLIONS with your short sightedness.

I live in Michigan and have been out of work for a year now... At the moment there are zero jobs in my field that could sustain my home and expenses. I am hoping as the economy continues to grow... my job will return.

My wife and I are not maintaining our budget problems now and if my unemployment benefits stop we will most likely lose everything or claim bankruptcy.

It must be nice never having to worry about money... as you do....

or Healthcare... like you do..

Instead of being the party of "No"... why don't you actually work with the Democratic party and solve some of these issues.

From Worried Sick in Michigan

1. Good for you
I don't know what good, if any, it will do, but maybe after a few million e-mails, phone calls, letters and other contacts, it might just penetrate Bunning's thick skull that his petulant tantrum affects slightly more than his attendance at a University of Kentucky basketball game.

And if Mr. Bunning's priorities are that far out of whack, perhaps it's time for him to retire so he can watch all the basketball games he wants without having to worry about any other niggling responsibilities he is so anxious to avoid.

29. I believe that Mr. Bunning is mentally ill, because they wanted him
to step down last election.

Check my sig line.

Sometimes makes it easier to call SEVERAL reps/senators if you have a few minutes. Always good to bring other eyes and ears in, too - and make sure you tell them you called somebody else about this also. That way any one recipient knows your appeal can't be as easily ignored, since somebody else got the same one. Always good if you do something in writing to CC somebody else at the bottom. That way the recipient knows somebody else saw this too. Short-circuits any deniability.

Sometimes I've called the regional or district office(s) also. Spread the wealth around!

9. I don't know what he did for a living b4 becoming a Senator but...
Edited on Fri Feb-26-10 01:44 PM by Jokinomx
it does make sense that he has never been in the situation I am in right now. I moved back to Michigan in 97 and have had 6 jobs since moving back. All but one has been with a company just closing or moving to Mexico. The one time I left one job for higher pay in another...only to see that job be bought out by our competition then closing our plant taking Zero laborers to their main plant only 30 miles away.

And the kicker was that it was a unionized company that bought the company I worked for and we were non union.

The company had a severance package... but even fired a half a dozen workers one week before the shut down so they wouldn't get their $1000.00 or so.

Anyway...thanks for the comment.

10. Well just found out ....guess we could say this guy is serious about sports...
Pitching primarily for the Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies, Bunning accumulated a record of achievement that eventually won him a seat in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996. He was the second pitcher in history (Cy Young was the first) to record 1,000 strikeouts and 100 wins in both the American and National leagues. When he retired in 1971, Bunning was second on the all time strikeout list - second only to Walter Johnson.

This is from his web site

What the hell is wrong with this guy?

He can't tell me that everyone in Kentucky is employed and everyone has total healthcare? I used to live in Ashland.. I know GD better than that...

I would think his own people would want to kick his ass?

Made a not so nice call to his office and to McConnell's but calmed down enough to write a fairly lucid letter but it won't matter.

Edited on Fri Feb-26-10 02:31 PM by CherokeeDem
As one of the many Kentuckians who are currently unemployed, I am appalled at your behavior on the Senate floor over the unemployment benefit extension bill. Your disrespect for your fellow Senators, your disrespect for the millions of unemployed Americans, and your disrespect for your fellow Kentuckians in need is reprehensible.

I have no doubt that you could care less what I think, that was pretty obvious from not only your tantrum on the Senate floor but your Republican colleagues at the Health Summit yesterday who revealed what we already knew, that none of you care about the livelihood of the people who put you in office.

Whether I voted for you, or not, I am a constituent and should expect that you are working for me and my welfare and for the people of Kentucky and the United States. Of course, I am not naïve; you are taking care of yourself and could care less about me or anyone else.

I suppose the thing that I find most disturbing about this is that an underperformer like you, who has done nothing to improve the Commonwealth of Kentucky, has any power to block legislation that affects so many people. We should be ashamed of ever giving you that opportunity to show what a despicable excuse for a public figure that you are.

I shall respectfully request that you withdraw your objections to the unemployment benefits extension bill and allow millions of Americans over the next year to be able to maintain their homes, their health insurance through the Cobra subsidy, and pay for necessities such as food and utilities. If you want to make a difference, why don’t you work toward bringing more jobs to Kentucky?

xxxxxxxxxx
Lexington, KY

I am under no delusion that any of this will matter, nor am I extremely worried that we will not see an extension of benefits but I am so tired of these people not worrying about the welfare of their constituents but being concerned only about their own welfare. Fighting windmills? Yeah, that about sums it up but enough is enough.

15. My e-mail:
"Senator:

"Your disgusting display of anger and cursing is abominable, but it pales in comparison with what you did last night. I refer to holding up unemployment and COBRA, not only for millions of Americans who can barely keep the wolf from the door, but also for myself -- one of the more than 10 percent of your fellow Kentuckians who is laid off and relying on these benefits while frantically trying to find another job at the age of 60.

"Your comment, "Tough s***" to another senator is in reality a comment to your suffering constituents.

"Sincerely,

(Road2000)"

And I thought I couldn't despise anybody more than Bitch McConnell.

It's very dis-concerning.

17. Another telling feature of his Web site...
The drop-down topic box for our concerns offers "abortion" and "illegal immigrants," but "unemployment" is not an option. I had to pick "other."
