China warns Google to comply with censorship laws
Source: BBCnews.com

China's top internet official has warned that Google will "pay the consequences" if it continues to go against Chinese law.

Google announced in January that it would no longer comply with China's internet censorship laws.

It warned that it may shut down google.cn because of censorship and a hacking attack on the portal.

Minister of Industry and Information Technology Li Yizhong was speaking at China's annual legislation session.

May I respectfully request this thread be locked? I posted it in LBN because it is NEWS (i.e., BBC News) If I wanted to be beaten up and called derogatory names, I would have posted it in GD.

:-(

2. It's not "late-breaking". Even the article you posted is dated 3/12.

4. There's a newer, related story
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35868432/ns/world_news-washington_post/

China's giving the big FU to the West. While we can't even seem to fix our own healthcare issues or resolve pointless 'values' wars, China just races on by...

The only (small) silver lining to this is that it might bug Ayn Rand fanboys that a collectivist state with many state owned industries is one of the most vibrant economies in the world right now.

Sigh.

6. I think the big FU should be given to China by the private companies
after reading this section:

"In the past weeks, China announced plans to force Western companies to turn over their most sensitive technology and patents to Chinese competitors in exchange for access to the country's markets."
