I have been thinking about this for a while, but have not posted my idea yet ... it is one that Republicans should be down with, since they are so fond of vouchers for private schools.

Problem: mandated health insurance with no public option

Solution: provide vouchers for anyone who is uninsured to be used in payment for private health insurance.

sounds like a good solution to me. :shrug:

1. That was McCain's plan when he was running for Prez.
He wanted to give every single adult a $5000 tax credit and every family $10000. The problem was that he didn't want to regulate insurers and he also wanted to tax all insurance plans.

2. Math
It's not good enough for either.

Ponzi finance doesn't work.

If you hadn't noticed, the student loan/grant system is falling to pieces, colleges have raised tuition to absorb all that extra money offered into the system.

And for quite some time, so have the health insurers.

We live in a time where all these Ponzi schemes are falling apart at once, we need new ideas that do not lend* themselves to financiers inserting themselves into the equation and sucking out immense profits for the most minor of participation.

* - pun intended

3. yep, vouchers without cost controls are just pieces of paper
just like the educational voucher scam.. They were only "good" in carefully controlled "test cases" or for storefront jesus schools ..
