Cornyn: We Won't Call For Repealing All Of Health Care

Rather than promising to scrap the bill in its entirety, the GOP will pledge to just get rid of the more controversial parts.

"There is non-controversial stuff here like the preexisting conditions exclusion and those sorts of things," the Texas Republican said. "Now we are not interested in repealing that. And that is frankly a distraction."

The remarks seemingly put Cornyn at odds with the head of all Senate Republicans, Mitch McConnell (R-Ky), who signaled on Tuesday that he would support a legislative effort by fellow Republican lawmakers to fully repeal the health care bill. Cornyn himself had previously suggested that he'd support a full repeal campaign as well.

Ruh Roh. This will only confuse and anger their base.

1. Fatass Limbaugh and Batty Beck haven't given them orders yet.
They won't know what to do for a while.

3. That didn't take long
I predict they'll drop it all quietly and go find another issue to scare their "constituents" with.

"Government takeover of banks. They're going to give all my money to communistical nazis."

11. You don't think the GOP will split?
I'm thinking four parties in 2016. Teabag, Conservative, Republican and Democrat.

We don't have any reason to split, why not just remain unified as the big-tent Democratic Party?

24. We've been talking collapse, not split.
If THEY collapse, WE split. Unity with no opposition is NOT democracy. Our more liberal side would split from our more conservative side. We are beginning it, within the party, in the primary challenges. If the Republicans are unable to field candidates to run under their banner, do you really think it is in anyone's best interest to let Democratic candidates run unopposed?

If, however, the Republicans devolve into a Teabagger and a Conservative Party, each fielding its own candidates, we will, of course, remain gleefully united.

17. By definition the Democrats are a party that include many varieties.

I don't necessarily see a split.

19. Personally, I'd like it if the Republicans all went to Somalia
and the US got two new parties: Progressive Democrats and Blue Dogs.

The Blue Dogs are assholes, but they don't seem to be vicious assholes like the Republicans.

5. They can't work to REALLY repeal the whole thing --
because they will need the new bill as an issue to run on in the midterms and 2012. Just like they never REALLY want to overturn Roe -- they get too much political mileage put of it. They will get mileage with their peeps with this bill, too.
