Facebook political discussion has put me in a fighty mood today.
Just talking with other people who feel like their rights are being trampled, etc.

Nothing like an argumentative Friday.

2. Bush wasn't a black democrat.
It's OK if you're a white republican and it's in the name of national security.

3. I had to do a smackdown on a SIL who admits this reform will HELP her but is still against it
She has two disabled kids, one on SSI/Medicare and yet when she conceded the fact that her low income would qualify her for a fully subsidized insurance policy for herself (she has a chronic kidney condition and NO INSURANCE right now) her comment was;

"Who's going to pay for it? Don't you think they'll be pissed?"

My answer? Who the hell do you think is paying for Jane's SSI and Medicare for life? Don't you think they're pissed? Those are SOCIALIZED programs!

4. Who cares if they're pissed?
In our society, there are winners and losers. Why should we be the ones on the short end of the stick time and time again?

12. Her point seemed to be that they were mad because it was wrong to take their money
My point: Well, you better stop taking their money for your daughters hydrocephalus tube adjustments and CP surgeries too. They might get pissed about your socialist ass taking their money for you kids socialist healthcare.

7. That's too much!
What level of brainwashing must it have taken for her to end up arguing against here own clearly visible and acknowledged self-interests?

While the sharks think of nothing else?

Maybe they put something in the champagne and caviar that inoculates the rich against the mind control waves.

5. me too the past week
I kind of feel bad getting into arguments with my ex's (who's now a goof friend) cousin, a staunch Libertarian who only worships money it seems. He was ok with wasting trillions on an unnecessary war, but god forbid his taxes might go up $10 to help poor people get health care, or even that he might save money on his own health care if we had a true universal system.

barf. It started innocently enough, and when he started making disparaging comments about how poor people are "lazy" and "takers of society" I even pointed out that success is not a guaranteed result of hard work, and that in fact most people who bust their asses every day won't be successful necessarily, that chance plays a huge role, including the chance of what family you are born into. I pointed out the millions of people who had good jobs that they worked hard in but were laid off, and the millions of people who had insurance but went bankrupt because of medical bills, but it doesn't matter.

To him government only exists for national security and protecting (his) property rights. It's been getting harder and harder to keep it civil.

8. It's tough to argue with philosophy
When talking with real conservatives or libertarians, all of their logic just comes down to "well that stinks for that guy". If someone believes that something is just the way its supposed to be, then that's a hard thing to have a debate about.

9. "It was God's plan."
That kind of logic pisses me off more than anything. That is how dirtbags like Rush and Pat Robertson get away with telling people that Haiti brought the problems on itself.

6. I've been having that same kind of week...
I've decided to use the "hide" option on a few of my Facebook friends. That way I don't have to read their ridiculous, uninformed status updates.

10. I've decided that I don't defriend people for their political opinions
I'm trying to be that guy who really values these differences, but when they're so uninformed and spiteful it's tough to accept that we have some kind of relationship. Most of them are from the distant past, so it's not hard to believe that our values have diverged over time.
