8. About 300 people can fit in 300 square feet.
Think of an elevator 4 feet by 6 feet. That's 24 square feet. 24 people in that elevator is pretty goddamned crowded. So 300 people in 300 square feet is kind of an absolute maximum, I would say.

However, the area in the picture looks to be a lot more than 300 square feet. 300 square feet would be a bit under 18 feet by 18 feet or like an over-sized living room.

Suggestion: count the cars.

Personally I don't care that much to count how many wackos come out to hoot and holler and act like idiots.

9. Yeah, I figured that out after I posted but this article said " 300-square-foot lot "
Edited on Sun Mar-28-10 12:18 AM by Emit
~snip~

Organizers expect 5,000 to 10,000 people, sending out a breathless statement urging the media to feature aerial coverage of the event and arrival of bus caravans of supporters.

The 300-square-foot lot seems much too small to accommodate a crowd of that size. The rickety mining town is home to fewer than 1,000 people.

~snip~

50. Help me with this one...
I seem to recall another political ideology that made a sharp distinction between 'the people' and the individual, and held that the will of the people trumped any needs or rights of the individual. Now which ideology was that...

Scary that this very idea is indeed yet another of the pillars of state fascism. Are they getting this crap out of Mein Kampf or will people pre-disposed towards authoritarianism just create fascism instinctively even if they've never heard of it?

So a typical outdoor concert facility holds 15 to 20k. That looks like the first three sections of an amphitheater, or about 4 of 5k.

Just how dumb can the Republicans get?! Associating with these violent logic-and-plan-free racist nuts is no way to rebuild their party.

This could be a dangerous sentiment, but I love these Teabagger kooks. They are insuring the future irrelevancy of the GOP.

28. The Slabs set
Less than 5 direct highway hours from Searchlight NV, the Slabs is an abandoned military base in the CA desert that is populated all winter by 'snowbirds' in RVs, who camp there for free. It is a large, ongoing community. The Slabs probably were source of many of the Republican protesters in Searchlight.

35. Count the RVs and multiply by two or at most three people in each one
Most likely two people in each RV because they look like retired people. I would say just glancing at it that there were maybe 200 RVs there. That means there are 400 to 600 people there. Not even equal to the population of Searchlight. Or let's assume there are 4 or 5 people per RV. That means there are at most 1000 people. With that one aerial shot it would be easy to figure out.

Edited on Sun Mar-28-10 12:02 PM by JackRiddler
Could be as few as 3000, however.

EDIT: Better pics in 24, looks closer to 3K there.

The lot covers an area comparable to a sports arena and looks crowded. The resolution is terrible and it's hard to make out objects to get an idea of scale: what are those structures? You can't tell what's a trailer and what's a car, so it's not a useful shot.

And either way? Millions of people really do follow the teabag creed.

Obama was routinely drawing 50 to 100 thousand during the campaign.

What disturbs me right now is that there aren't larger rallies everywhere of the many millions more who want an end to war, the real health care reform, power to unionize, just wages for work, etc.

Why did we surrender initiative to this pack?
