Washington Post poll finds split on health-care law remains deep
Americans overwhelmingly see the new health-care law as a major shift in the direction of the country, but they remain as deeply divided today over the changes as they were throughout the long congressional debate, according to a Washington Post poll.

In the days since President Obama signed the farthest-reaching piece of social welfare legislation in four decades, overall public opinion has changed little, with continuing broad public skepticism about the effects of the new law and more than a quarter of Americans seeing neither side as making a good-faith effort to cooperate on the issue.

Overall, 46 percent of those polled said they support the changes in the new law; 50 percent oppose them. That is virtually identical to the pre-vote split on the proposals and similar to the divide that has existed since last summer, when the country became sharply polarized over the president's most ambitious domestic initiative.

2. Wait....
Wait until the summer and the campaigning gets underway. Wait until the concrete benefits start to kick in...

8. Not only that, but the majority of these people
hate it because they believe the lies about death panels, etc.

9. Yep.. a proper poll would be nice... like:
which is closest to your preference:

no health plan at all
true universal health care for all...paid from taxes.. with no co-pays?
the law that passed is a good start

4. It's not social welfare, it's corporate welfare.
It may help a few people along the way, but eventually it's just another giveaway to Big Insurance and Big Pharma.

5. Best we can hope for...
Some of the immediate benefits will be popular and some of the damage the long term stuff will do could be mitigated before it goes into effect. The prospect, though, of losing some seats in November does not bode well for a lot of progressive improvements to the bill before 2014. Maybe if Halter unseats Lincoln...

As already mentioned, there is no attention paid to the opposition which is of the 'didn't go far enough variety' so prospects for taking it further seem dim. I still think the mandate becomes more acceptable to a lot of people if the choice of a public option available to an increasing number of people over time is created.

6. Mason Dixon poll for Fla about the health care bill is awful for dems!
Edited on Sun Mar-28-10 02:45 AM by flyarm
seniors are not buying into it at all..

we will lose the open senate seat and governor here because of it..count on that!

And the polls on Bill Nelson signing it are bad as well!

The poll was in Tampa papers and Orlando papers.

Seniors get it and they are not happy. And they vote in large numbers..you can kiss Florida good bye at the polls..

Oh and the Independents are also unhappy about it in large numbers.
