1. I never get tired of Buddy Guy telling the story about Muddy...
...taking him under his wing when he first got to Chicago...the bit about how he was hungry and cold and scared and Muddy made some salami sandwiches and had him sit in the back seat of his car to eat them and at one point slapped him and told him to get it together...

I've been a Johnny Winter fan for most of my life, but in addition to his own music, he deserves our permanent thanks for those last four albums on Blue Sky, sending him out in a blaze of glory instead of watching him fade away into retirement. All of the great bluesmen who have left us in recent years...Muddy, John Lee, Freddie, Albert, Luther Allison...they played right up until the end, and they gave it everything they had. There's always been a lesson in that for me.

5. I have a story about Muddy Waters....
Back in the '70s, there was a 500-year flood in the mountains of Kentucky. People were ushered from their beds at 2:00 am in the morning to escape the rising waters.

I had a bunch of albums under my bed so I placed them on the bed and pulled the covers over them.

Three days later, when the water had subsided, we were able to wade thru the mud and enter into the remnants of our homes.

I uncovered my albums I had placed on my bed and the album on the very top was Muddy Waters...
