To Clarify There Are Good and Bad People In Every Kind of Job, Not Just the Military
however, when someone in whatever profession (even fast food grill cook who spits on your whopper) does something clearly wrong and hurts others - it does not mean all people who do this job are bad - cops, doctors, insurance people, city workers, miners, etc.

1. when was the last time a whopper maker killed people, knowingly.
and with a bit of relish.

don't compare murder to making fricken burgers.

4. DUH - I am Not - I Have Been Completely Outraged Over the Murders
however, htere are quite a few apologists here who think that when you call a murderer a murderer, you are calling all troops murderers.

6. they are trained for murder. all of them.
when the war is illegal from the get go and goes against the Geneva convention, all who participate are murderers or would be murderers.

I feel for the families of those there, but I just cannot think how they can continue on the rampage of murder KNOWING its all for fucking nothing they were told it was.

8. Agree, But Shooting Down Unarmed People from a Mile Away Is Wrong Any Day

2. well, sure, but most professions
don't involve shooting at people and dropping bombs. The pressures of being in a war zone can have the effect of making people act in ways that they wouldn't in more normal circumstances.

9. Right But Someone Needs To Identify the Problems and Remove Them
not allowing things like this and Abu Gahraib to keep happening.

3. So leadership gets a pass?
Training. We obviously aren't doing it right.

A message should have been sent LOUD and CLEAR while that was going down that it was unacceptable behavior.

5. I Fully Agree and Want Them All Held Accountable All the Way Up
my point is if some people in a group are bad, and others in the group cover it up, they are the problem. Not everyone, just those involved and enabling it to happen.

11. I do not disagree, but what happened to our military??
My ex was in VietNam. He explained to me once the difference between hand-to-hand combat vs distance firing. Look them in the white of the eye and all that. Potent stuff.

Today, our military does not engage like in WWII (where we fought defined armies in uniform). We fight from a mile away with telescopic cams. It becomes a video game.

In WWII, you were in for the duration. Now, it is a decade of death in tour after tour where our military goes from a killing machine to "daddy/mommy" and back.

We are going to end up with a generation of messed up folks if we don't reassess this all. We learned nothing from SE Asia...
