From FB tonight on the whole AZ immigration issue:
"Why is everyone not happy about Arizona's immigration law? They are wanting to keep the ILLEGAL immigrants out of our country NOT the LEGAL immigrants. Just wanting to keep the jobs available to legal citizens of our country and keep the drugs out."

"I have friends who have immigrated here from other country and totally respect the stuggles their families sacrificied but if you are coming here illigally it would for for illigal activities (usually). We don't need that in our country nor do we want it here..."

And this snippet:

"That is why I mentioned the stuggle of their families. And a child has no say in their situation so I can only pray for the best for that child."

Not even sure how to argue with that :)

1. You can't logic with the illogical. You can't rationalize with the irrational.
Don't even waste your time.

2. We don't treat people like criminals in this country unless they are convicted.

Hispanics are deemed illegal until proven otherwise. That is wrong no matter what good you think it brings. We are becoming what we use to preach against. Fear has driven us to become that which we use to despise. I hate the America we are becoming because if irrational fear! We are fast becoming the Germany of the 1930's!

9. Let it never be said that I'm uncharitable, even so far as going for the vastly less-likely theory..

just for the sake of maintaining a charitable reading.

"We don't treat people like criminals in this country unless they are convicted."

Pretty much only someone new to this country, or else a lying idiot with no knowledge whatsoever of American history would even consider saying such a thing.

I still prefer the fiction that people aren't lying idiots, no matter how briefly that fiction stands. (shrug)

3. Maybe we need to mobilize teams to go to Arizona
We can as the police to check the papers of old white guys because we think they might be illegals.

That would shut the thing down pretty quickly.

5. Sorry, needed an example of people who wouldn't otherwise be targeted by this
And, well, old white guys are generally safe from such things.

I have many old white guys in my life who I love dearly, but the fact is that they are not going to be affected by this and well, frankly, in most places they are the ones making the laws.

So, it isn't hate, it is simply the example farthest from the intended focus of the law.
