Littleton Man Indicted On Machine Gun Theft, Bomb Charges

Police: Man Leaving Strip Club Was Stopped Driving Jeep With Illegal Flashing Lights, Siren

POSTED: 7:45 pm MDT April 20, 2010

DENVER -- It began when a Denver patrol officer stopped a young man who had just left Shotgun Willie's strip club driving a Jeep with illegal flashing red lights and a blaring siren last month. Then the officer spotted a machine gun among an arsenal of weapons in the Jeep.

Now, 21-year-old Andrew Thomas Gunzner, an apprentice gunsmith at a Littleton gun shop, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of possessing two machine guns that he stole from his employer, Prairie Arms Manufacturing, and possessing explosive devices, the Colorado U.S. Attorney's Office told TheDenverChannel.com Tuesday.

The charges carry a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison and $760,000 in fines. Gunzner remains in Denver jail.

The indictment of the Littleton area man culminated a month-long investigation by Denver police and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents.

Neighbors in the suspect's upscale Littleton area neighborhood were stunned two weeks ago when police and federal agents raided Gunzner's home and found it filled with 14 other shotguns, rifles and pistols, three "destructive devices," chemical explosives, and a notebook with a handwritten bomb diagram, according to the search warrant inventory of items seized. snip

Gunzner is accused of stealing the fully automatic machine gun found in his car, a German-made Heckler & Koch MP-5, along with an AR-15 rifle and equipment to make it fully automatic, from Prairie Arms Manufacturing, according to the search-warrant affidavit obtained by TheDenverChannel.com.

1. Leaving a bar - Shotgun Willie's - strip club no less - with machine guns in the car.

6. Name: Gun-zner
Now if he had chosen Browning no eyebrows would have been raised. A lot fewer, anyway.

Occupation: full time gun freak.

2. I wonder if he's written a manifesto.
Is he a would-be terrorist, or just a gun nut?

5. "When they make guns legal"
"all your in-laws will have guns." In the future, little sayings like that should keep the gun craziness from ever breaking out again.

"Gunzner" I wonder did he have his name legally changed ?

17. "Problems" in the view of some perhaps, but a problem with a SOLUTION!
This "strip bar" isn't the kind of place you may imagine with dancers taking their clothes off, and sweaty guys waving dollars and paying for lap dances. Shotgun Willie's is for guys to bring their favorite firearms to, and strip them down, and oil them up, all in front of other guys, and where you can watch another guy strip his favorite weapon down.
All. The. Way.
Down.

In the back, they got a firing range where, so I hear, the lights are always turned off. Dick problem:solved.

Sure, it may seem to you like a twisted way to bust a nut, but this country also allows people to make films of women stepping on small animals with high heeled shoes to crush them to death, and films of dogs tearing each other, or other animals, to literal shreds. Are gun fetishists really the sickest of the bunch? Are they really?

A bad-ass gun, a goofy light bar and siren on his Jeep, all to play wannabe cop.

13. But our gun laws are very effective-- no need to close that
gun show loophole or any of the many other little legal technicalities, right? Just because he's from the same community where guns were made available to Eric Harris and Dylan Kliebold to carry out Columbine. Fully automatic machine gun, indeed.

Good on Denver police for following this so closely. This guy may have just been an insecure ass or he may have been up to something major.

12. I've been in that joint. Several times.
And in the '80's I used to work across the street as a bouncer in a place called "The London House".
We frequented their establishment, and they frequented our establishment.

Those were the days.
Did I have some fun.

14. It has been there on S. Colorado as long as I can recall...
I've always thought it amusing that it is only about a mile from some of the most expensive "shee shee" housing in Denver.
