Did you know 10,000 people protested the Banksters in NYC yesterday? (I heard nary a peep on MSM)
AlterNet / By Alexander Zaitchik

Thousands Rally in New York for Showdown with Wall St.
Over 10,000 protesters gathered in New York's financial district to demand financial reform.

April 30, 2010 |

After a year of what seemed like nonstop Tea Party coverage, it's easy to forget that Americans ever protested in anything but solid ethnic blocs, or that Americans ever gathered to express coherent grievances grounded in reality.

Yesterday's AFL-CIO-led protest on Wall Street was an overdue reminder.

More than 5,000 union members and others delivered a crisp message with their march from City Hall to the Bowling Green Bull. In contrast to recent protests on the right, the event was noticeably lacking in loaded and ahistorical symbols like Gadsen flags, and refrained from vilifying individuals in favor of calling out institutions. Of hundreds of signs hoisted, only one was branded with the Obama logo. The signs were non-partisan and dealt with real problems -- namely, this country's rogue, unregulated finance sector. There was only one puppet, a fanged vampire squid meant to symbolize Goldman Sachs. The banners declared "Wall Street: Never Again" and "Less Audis, More Audits." Almost to a one, they echoed the clear policy demands of the day: regulatory reform, new taxes on banks and speculators, and a jobs bill.

The afternoon began with direct action protests in the lobbies of Wells Fargo and J.P. Morgan Chase. Next came a series of speakers -- teachers, students, workers -- that put New York City faces on the nationwide hard times. Representing hundreds of labor, religious and community groups, they demanded Wall Street do its part to fix the mess it created. They railed against budget cuts in city housing, health and education, overseen by the city's billionaire mayor who opposes a financial transaction tax. .........(more)

The complete piece is at: http://www.alternet.org/action/146678/thousands_rally_in_new_york_for_showdown_with_wall_st.

Ratigan's voice annoys the hell outta me, though. The MSM should have been covering this like they did all those kiddie tea parties, but noooooooooooo.

I noticed that MSNBC - you know, that "liberal" station the right hates so much, said about 300 people were there.

26. Every Wall Street Protest Should Begin & End With A Protest At Studios of MSM Outlets....
Take each of them on .... ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and make sure to raise enough noise to be heard.

Until there is MSM coverage of such protests, the great majority of Americans will not know it happened.

I'll tune into the PBS Newshour and the Big Three Broadcast Nets later today and see if they'll report on this. Thank you everyone for the heads up re CNN and MSNBC and international news outlets.

Of course, the conservative, pro-business Fox News Channel will just skip over this and maybe report on stuff that's much more important for the American people to know, like less-than-credible findings of Noah's Ark.

40. Here is why, I just learned this...
People surf the web at work. They look at CNN and Yahoo and MSM sites and if you work for SEC you are allowed to surf for porn. As long as MSM sites paint a safe, pro-business picture, companies are quietly tolerant of the web surfing. The fire walling and monitoring is worse than surfing in terms of control headaches.

So the deal is, promote a pro-corporate culture on MSM and its like people watching TV at work. So, when you go to "safe" sites like abc, cnn, et al, you are will only ever get nice easily digestible morsels of news, scooby snacks and never anything that will challenge corporate culture. In return, these fake news sites get massive exposure to their advertising, all day and all night.

Teabaggers are inherently pro-corporate, pro-wall street. This is something corporate management can get behind even when they are completely crazy.

I remember one of the Corporate hacks - maybe it was Brian "Xanax Eyes" Williams - whining that people were getting their news from HORRORS bloggers. He went on and on about his training and his credentials and his commitment and how we were doomed if people started relying on "just anybody" to report news.

Had I listened to him, i wouldn't know a damn thing.

There could be a million people protesting something and it wouldn't get 1/10 the coverage the tea party gets. That way 99% of the people won't even know millions of people stand beside them.

The tea party movement is a creation of the corporate media.

GM Summary

•GM is still Government Motors.
•The US Government converted $45.3 billion in loans to a 70% ownership position.
•The Canadian Government converted an $8.1 billion stake into 12% ownership.
•GM lost $3.4 billion in the 4th quarter of 2009.
•GM still has $15 billion in debt.
•GM has $27 billion in unfunded pension liabilities.

Until GM IPOs we will not know an approximation of taxpayer losses. Moreover, those losses do not include the pension time bomb.

78. I guess the republicans just can't grasp the fact that he saved US manufacturing jobs
(thousands of them in fact) by using socialist tactics.

If what you posted is true, why all the news last week that GM paid us back with interest?

76. Unions could have the catchiest name ever
and our corporate media would never cover them. Ever.

80. 1% would have got more media if they'd gone to the local limbaugh stations
that were so instrumental selling the deregulation in the first lace and now do the heavy lifting for wall street on obstruction and enabling the GOP and blue dogs to get their compromises.
