Despite Catholic teachings, women religiously take the pill
AFP - Fifty years after the birth control pill went on the US market, millions of women around the world are still under orders from the Roman Catholic hierarchy to eschew its use.

But all indications are that women stopped listening long ago.

"Catholics use the pill the same way everyone else does... Priests don't even preach against it any more," said Jon O'Brien, president of Catholics for Choice.

Ninety-eight percent of American women aged 15-44 have used some form of contraception and more than 44 million have used the pill, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

"There is no evidence that the teachings of the church influence Catholics in their decisions about the kind of contraception they actually use," said Frances Kissling.

The lead author of a 2004 report on Catholics' attitudes on sexual behavior, Kissling said fewer than five percent of Catholics in the United States use birth control methods allowed by the Church.

1. another hypocrisy i ask my catholic friends. dont waste the seed....
or whatever.

so, they do the rhythm method, having sex when they know they are not fertile. that is absolutely wasting the seed as much as jacking off or taking the pill

i ask you

am i not right

they never agree.

to purposely have sex only when you know you wont impregnate seems pretty wasted to me.

2. Real Catholic men get vasectomies. My very devout dad was
one of them. he got his in the mid 60's, right after my mom thought she might be pregnant but turned out to going into menopause early.

His attitude was The guys in "the fancy hats can do what ever the hell they want." Years later, when we were older our parents explained that they considered the pill but were concerned about side effects, besides, my dad said, after my mom's 2 pregnancies it was only fair that he have an operation.

My mom's 2 girlfriends who became nuns were both on the pill at that time, they claimed it was "treat acne". Even at a fairly young age I never believed that.
