Republican "humor"
When I ran out at lunch, the car radio was tuned to a Pittsburgh station that gives decent traffic and weather information during drive time but apparently goes far right in between. The host of the show told a joke about a "Sicilian Relaxation Technique" which ended with holding Nancy Pelosi under water.

In all our years under Bush the Dumber, I don't ever remember a joke going around that involved killing Republicans. There were certainly jokes about Bush's mental capacity (How many is a Brazilian?) But never once did I hear a joke that advocated killing anyone.

Now the right not only feels perfectly free to spread jokes that advocate death, but feels it's fine to tell them on the radio.

5. You mean "Death of a President"?
That wasn't advocating killing Bush. It wasn't a comedy.

10. I said it wasn't a joke . . .
and you and I realize it did not advocate killing anyone. The RW, however, has stated the contrary - that it did suggest that.

7. That movie actually cautioned against assassinating Bush, because
President Cheney and the resulting curtailing of civil liberties (moreso than was already happening) would be the outcome.

Funny how many righties wail about that movie betray the fact that they haven't seen it simply by whining about it.

13. I did see it - and was surprised by the RW comments - that it did
advocate his murder

15. Sorry, that was meant to be addressed towards the RW in general.
I was more just hitching on to your comment as opposed to lecturing you. Sorry if it came off that way.

17. no - I did not get that impression - just agreeing that the RW just used the movie
as an excuse to whine about the left

(not that we would ever do that . . . )

2. We have a huge number
of bullies in our country, with the GOP as their leader. They claim to be religious, but say and do some of the most hateful and mean spirited things I've ever heard or seen. I can only hope that the number of compassionate Americans is larger than the number of cruel Americans.

4. RW 'humor' is often at the expense of someone they perceive as a weak/weird/slow moving target
(b/c that's what gets a sadist's blood pumping!) ... replete w/standard quasi-retraction if circumstances dictate their donning a phony social mask; "just kidding."

When they have to tell ya they're 'only joking,' they're usually not

Really though, in most instances one usually only encounters such blowhards online where RWer's of all stripes are free to run their enormous, ego-fueled mouths sans the need to worry about the invariable violence they'd certainly create/bring on themselves for taking such hostile tones w/others

11. OK, here it is
Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed."

"OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!"

His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands.

Finally, the President looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"

18. well Bill Maher implied Americnas would benefit from Cheney's death
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,256650,00.html

I'm aware this goes to fox news, but i watched the show as he said it. So yes, people on the "left" did joke about the deaths of the BFEE.

just being devil's advocate here (literally?).

19. I don't think that was a joke
From the article:

Quoting the blog, Maher said, "I have zero doubt that if Dick Cheney was not in power, people wouldn’t be dying needlessly tomorrow."

Asked by Frank if Maher believed that sentiment, the host replied, "I’m just saying if he did die, other people, more people would live. That’s a fact."

Certainly nothing like the death jokes making the rounds on the right now.
