Breaking: Beau Biden (Joe's son) is in the hospital in Delaware.
They have no information or details yet, except that he is talking and aware.

Remember, Beau and his brother were in a car accident with their mom and sister when they were just kids, and Beau and Hunter spent a lot of time in the hospital recovering. Their mom and sister died. Joe almost didn't take his Senate seat but was talked into it, and was sworn in at their hospital beds. That's why he commuted from Delaware to DC daily, so he could be home with his boys every night.

Let's hope this is nothing serious.

4. Here's what I have from the New Journal out of Wilmington:

Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden hospitalized
The News Journal • May 11, 2010

Vice President Joe Biden's office released this statement shortly after 10 a.m.:

"Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden is at Christiana Medical Center undergoing treatment at present. He is alert and awake, and communicating with his parents and his wife, who are with him. We will provide more details as they become available."

This is a breaking news update. More details will be published as they become available.

Beau has a major case on his plate with the Bradley case, a Lewes Pediatrician that has been molesting his patients for over 10 years. I think that's one of the reasons Beau didn't want to run for senate - wanted to finish out this case.

5. I don't care for the 'alert and awake'
that's hospital jargon for stroke.

6. Yikes - I didn't know that, but now that you mention it, it makes sense. They
wouldn't be using such terminology if he had a broken bone or something.

21. You called it. So glad it was a mild one and that his speech and motor skills are
intact. I had a similar one about eight years ago. VERY few aftereffects and they didn't really impact my life at all, so I hope he's as fortunate as I was.

Poor Joe -- he almost lost him once when he was a kid, and it must have been horrifying for him to see him in that hospital today.

I will add to your wishes for a speedy recovery!

7. Thanks for this. I remember learning of that case during the time there
was speculation about a Senate run.

10. It's more than the doctor he's going after
This guy has been diddling his patients for over a decade and there is evidence he was reported several times but no one did anything. Biden wants to find out why nothing was done.

12. That's excellent -- so often they just go after the perp. Beau is doing it the right
way. Everybody who allowed this to continue has to share the responsibility.

15. a bit more
Vice President Biden's son, Beau, is undergoing treatment at a Delaware hospital, according to a statement from the vice president’s office.

A source close to the family tells ABC News that Beau had some discomfort this morning and a headache so he went to the doctors to get checked out. He's at Christiana Hospital and doctors are examining him trying to determine what, if anything, may be wrong.

17. Hmmm. Since Joe had a couple of brain aneurisms -- is this something
that they could be worried about regarding Beau? Is it a propensity that can be inherited? Joe finally got diagnosed as a result of killer headaches.

I'm not actually expecting you to answer or know about this condition, kind of thinking out loud. :)

Thanks for the update. Delaware online at this point just has a little filler, SUVs at the hospital, SS stationed outside the emergency room door, and background on Joe's experiences.

That's part of the curse of instant communication, we hear a snippet, then have to wait. In the old days, we probably wouldn't have even been aware of this until a lot more time had passed.
