Indy schools superintendent visits high school, suspends 40-50 students for breaking rules
INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Arlington High School students might want to shape up the next time the superintendent pays a visit.

Indianapolis Public Schools Superintendent Eugene White visited the east side school on Wednesday and suspended between 40 and 50 students for not following rules. Their offenses included insubordination, tardiness, not having identification cards and dress code violations.

White summoned four buses to take the students home. They were told to return with their parents on Thursday night to meet with administrators.

An IPS representative says the state's largest school district is sending students a message that rules are rules even with the end of the school year approaching.

6. He was hired to "Save The District"
but hasn't accomplished much in the past 4-5 years. He is an attention hog. The sentiment on the ground is that this was a PR stunt.

13. People who like to stage "discipline shows" are infallibly rotten.
It never fails.

4. I wish he would come to our school!
He should have sent the principals home too, for letting that crap slide.

7. He pushes a discipline plan (very public)

but doesn't seem to back it. Last year a principal (who also got lots of local media attention) was told to stop suspending students per district rules (per bad publicity). Principal was very publically demoted. If you want him at your school - you can get a one day great PR action, followed by the admin being directed *not* to do the same.

8. Last year he fired a principal for doing the same.
It was all PR. The parents were sent a letter to come the next evening in order to get the students off suspension. He didn't show. Last year a principal that was turning around a middle school, and got a lot of positive PR, was demoted. All talk no action - except when can get the media to watch for a minute.

9. Oops...I guess I spoke too soon.
But still might be a good idea for superintendents to get out and see what's happening in their districts.

10. Fascist fuck!
If they are using "insubordination" to mean the same way it was used at my high school it means "telling a teacher they are wrong". :eyes:

11. Be interesting to see just how bad some of the violations were and if they were all justified.
Sounds like seagull management to me.
