When my 3 granddaughters see Kagan, they see a role model.
My granddaughters all play softball. The 9 year old is a budding pitcher, the 12 year old is a catcher and the 14 year old plays 3rd base. They saw in Elena Kagan's face as she awaited the pitch the kind of joy they experience every week when they play. To them, she looks exuberant and happy. AND they see a woman who is going to be powerful: a justice on the Supreme Court of the United States.

THIS is what the freepers and baggers and haters are so afraid of. That kids like my granddaughters can aspire to be what Elena Kagan will be, without the dark, deeply troubled thoughts that attends the right wing narrative in this country about sexual orientation. That these girls have been raised in a state that honors ALL marriage between people and have been taught to accept people for what they are, as they are.

It's simple, really. But how scary it must be to be a right winger today...

2. True, but there is something powerful about that softball photo.
I think it stirred the troubled minds of the Right in many ways: powerful woman, projecting fears of homosexuality, and just fear of change generally.

The Right is scared sh*tless of Kagan...

3. Sorry: According a Friend of Kagan's In College, She's Straight.
This is America: there are no political gay role models allowed. Sorry.

4. It's too bad there has to be a conversation about one's sexual orientation,
one way or the other.

I think my granddaughters would say "Who cares?" And they do know about sexual orientation because they are in a liberal Democratic household and knew what was going on when MA declared all marriages equal.
