Barrage of US missiles kills 24 (Civilians) in NWA

PESHAWAR – As many as 24 civilians were killed and four others got injured when US drones fired at least 20 missiles on Dattakhel village, about 30 km west of Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan Agency, on Tuesday.

However, Reuters quoting security officials reported that all the killed persons were militants.

Sources informed that the US drone targeted different houses of civilians. According to details, in the first strike three missiles were fired, which were followed by six others when the rescue activities were underway in the same locality. Later, nine more missiles were fired on a house where a vehicle was targeted in the same locality.

According to political officials of North Waziristan Agency, curfew has been clamped in Khar Kamar and Dattakhel areas where people have been trapped inside their houses. The unannounced and unscheduled curfew has further added to the miseries of the people.

It is worth mentioning here that 14 persons were killed and four others received injuries three days back when a drone fired two missiles in the same area. The growing drone attacks have created fear and panic among the masses.

Agencies add: The number of missiles fired into North Waziristan was unusually high, reflecting multiple targets. They struck cars, homes and tents across a wide area in Doga, two intelligence officials said on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak to the media.
