Cuomo's campaign announced Wednesday morning that fellow Democrat Robert Duffy, a former cop, had gotten the nod.
Duffy, who was born in Rochester, graduated from the Aquinas Institute, Monroe Community College and the Rochester Institute of Technology, according to the city's Web site. He joined Rochester's Police Department in 1976, working nights so he could earn a master's degree from Syracuse University. Duffy became deputy chief of police in 1992 and police chief in 1998.
