Ugh, the mayor of Minneapolis is blaming gang-related violence on POT SMOKERS!
Edited on Thu May-27-10 07:35 AM by Odin2005
I was just listening to DINO Minneapolis mayor R.T. Rybak on MPR and he was bashing pot smokers for "participating in an underground economy that fuels gang violence". Well GEE, maybe we wouldn't have that problem if pot were legal, Mr. Rybak. :eyes:

6. Right if it wasn't illegal the gangs wouldn't be able to make the high profits that they
make. Remember Prohibition in the 1920's brought gangs into boot legging booze, here in Michigan it was the purple gang that brought Canadian whiskey into the major cities. After the end of prohibition the purple gang disappeared, I had family that was involved with the purple gang and heard stories about them. The most famous boot legger was Al Capone out of Chicago and we all know some of the history of what his gang did during the 20's and 30's.

12. Me neither, and I've seen quite a few.
Mr Pip, a retired cop, has said he would rather have run into twenty pot smokers than ONE drunk while on the job.

He and his colleagues absolutely hated Domestic Violence cases where alcohol was involved, for their own safety, as well as the asshole factor of the participants.

16. Legalize It And Put The Gangs Out Of Business
The only way you'll ever convince me that this won't work is by pointing out all the various gangs getting rich selling alcohol these days. Gee, during Prohibition, we had Al Capone and a host of others getting rich supplying speakeasies with alcohol and organized crime was rampant. Then Prohibition was repealed. What happened to all the "gangland" violence in Chicago and other places? That's right, it disappeared.............until the gangs discovered drugs.

18. Get with the times, R.T.
If he is still buyin' into the 30's-40's-50's reefer madness craze, does he also still believe that 4 out of 5 doctors recommend smoking Chesterfield cigarettes?

C'mon, R.T. -- get a clue. Cannabis is the answer, not the problem.

Go to Amsterdam where it is legal and let us know how their gang violence problem is.

22. DINO echoes Ashcroft. Surprise-surprise ...
"Meanwhile, Ashcroft has found time to escalate the attack on medicinal marijuana and other substances individual Americans may choose to use other than tobacco and alcohol. Not surprisingly, while reams of new research confirm marijuana's much-needed healing powers, particularly in chemotherapy and AIDS treatments, pot smokers are now being equated with terrorists. While state after state confirms marijuana's 5,000-year history as a medicinal herb, the Administration insists on enforcing penalties for its use that often exceed those for rape and murder. The drug war remains a blanket warrant to put tens of millions of Americans at risk of random, gratuitous arrest."
