Only the tiny bell shaped deal at bottom of diagram is what we see sitting atop the BOP.

So I'm curious about the disc and even more about all that goes on with the "open frame object" that was visible earlier in the day.

I surmise that it's the hot water and methanol injection gear and other vital components.



These future OPs seem to be well beyond my level of understanding, some deep study is in order.

Yes, it looked like a cage, didn't realize it was so big.

they can turn off the relief valves and work on improving the seal if necessary?

18. I'm confused; have they even connected the top of the cap assembly completely to the surface?

Also, it looks like they are/will be carefully regulating the pressure in the pipe with pumps. So maybe when the oil surfaces they'll adjust the pressure and be able to stop the leakage. That's going by the comments at the bottom of:

19. Seems like LOTS more oil leaking from under the cap in the last 10 mins.

Lots of rovers on it at the moment (from my views on bp.isevil.org). Somethings happening. Wonder if the oil reached the surface ship yet, or maybe they're tweaking the seating of the cap. No idea.

On one view you can see one of the triangle shaped "legs" moving around. That would not be happening if they had a compressed seal.
