Argh. Fuck Google!
Edited on Fri Jun-04-10 05:17 AM by Bucky
I try to google and they've stuck this fucking picture of a beautiful canyon that I'm not able to visit right now as a replacement for the clear white background that I expect from google. WHY, Lordy, WHY?

I'm a serious person, not a three year old who needs to have all my shit decorated to build my self esteem up. I don't do skins or wallpapers or any of that cheesy crap. I like(d) google for its simplicity. But when they put up this big gorgeous distracting canyon in the middle of MY goddamn web browser, they didn't even give me an option to have nothing but a simple no-background background there! Believe me, I looked around for three or four minutes--time they've taken away from my precious web surfing time--searching for an option that says no, no goofy ass wallpaper shit. No right back atcha, consumer drones, there IS no such option. Mwa-ha-haaa!

It's like they're saying "You are going to personalize your Google home page and you are going to enjoy it that way, whether you want to or not. Hugs and goddamn kisses to ya... asshole!"

Gee, thanks, Google.

Hey, look, Misters Don't-Be-Evil-My-Left-Nut-McGoogle, if I wanted a web browser that would try to crawl up inside my head and tell me what to think, I'd go over to using Bing instead! I want a simple white search page like I'm used to and I want a web browser that doesn't try to distract me from I'm doing. I put up with your silly ads cause I know you poor bastards gotta make a buck somehow, but leave my web searching alone. This is my time, not yours.

Now I gotta spend another 3 minutes making my own back ground image--a jpeg document called "blank_white.jpg"--and upload it to your pointless server somewhere in fucking Whoadude, California just so I can browse in peace. I'm sure it's all a part of your big sinister plot to force me to sign in to Google.com or Gmail or whatever, just so you can track all my personal life and sell it to Halliburton, VISA, or the CIA.     Gaaah!   Gnarglfgh!!

And now I gotta spend another 30 minutes bitching about it on DU! Oh, internet, why do you tease me so?

2. If you're still getting a regular Google page, then that means they planted some cookie on me
And this cookie won't let me get back to the normal Google page, even if I log out.

I loathe cookies. I miss the 1999 internet: static html, Goth chicks named DarkRaven, GeoCities, and not a hope of profit.

5. No, I clicked on that link. It gives me options of which image I want, but not the no-image option.
That's how I was able to upload a blank white image for my background. But there wasn't a clickable option for "Google without the BS".

They're probably still getting the kinks worked out
If you're currently sporting a wallpaper, the link should read "remove background image."

8. Ayup. The kinks. I'm getting that link now. But for about an hour this morning it wasn't there.
Don't know what happened. As late as 5:00am my time (Houston), the option let me change, but not remove, the background.

I hatelove the internet.

4. I am not a Google member. When I access the page, the background is white.
I see that there is a link which allows a member to change the background from white to a picture of his or her preference. If you are a member and are logged in, the background might revert to white if you log out.

6. Thanks. But, no, I tried that. When I log off it defaults to the river canyon image.
They have a cookie somewhere on my computer that makes the canyon picture, but there's no way that I can find to just have the old blank google back.

Appreciate the support, still.

7. Ooops, wait, no. There it is.
That wasn't showing up at first.

What a pointless waste of my morning.

9. Dang, some insidious cookie has invaded your browser.
I sympathize with our plight. I hate that type of corporate mind control. You will have to go with uploading that blank image as you discussed. As a side note, I was never a great Google fan. I use Yahoo from my searches. Yahoo seems to deliver more hits for the subjects which I search, including my business whenever I search my own name.

12. If you believe it's a cookie, you should have control over that.
You can whack all the cookies, you can block all cookies. It should be under preferences or personal data in the edit tab. I use the Epiphany browser, I don't know what you're using but there should be options. Mine has the option of clearing all cookies.

13. What I do't understand is this
when you go to google and search all kinds of stuff that has absolutely nothing what so ever to do with the original question comes up. If you put in Minnesota how in the hell can you get info pertaining to Texass. It happens all the time.
