"Terrible possible news for the California Republican party: the most famous and eccentric birther in America, Orly Taitz, could win her GOP primary tomorrow for California secretary of state—a high-ranking position that involves certifying election results!
Orly Taitz is a dentist and/or lawyer from California who does not believe that Barack Obama is a citizen of the United States. She thinks that he is either from or Kenya, or perhaps the Moon, and that he could be a spy for all the wrong people, whoever they may be. This, combined with her incredible love for filing junk lawsuits against the president and frequently going insane on television (when they still invited her) in a funny accent, established her as the Queen Birther during the big "show us your birth certificate Obama!" hoopla. Eventually Tea Party organizers stopped inviting her to their events, she asked the UN to protect her from Barack Obama, and she got her name on the ballot for California secretary of state in what sounded like—and probably originally was!—a stunt.
But the California GOP primaries are tomorrow, and what the hell?
Now she's running for the GOP nomination for secretary of state, and with her establishment-backed primary opponent mounting a less-than-stellar campaign against her, operatives say there's a chance she could win.
"It'd be a disaster for the Republican party," says James Lacy, a conservative GOP operative in the state. " Can you imagine if (gubernatorial candidate) Meg Whitman and (candidate for Lt. Gov.) Abel Maldonado—both of whom might have a chance to win in November—had to run with Orly Taitz as secretary of state, who would make her cockamamie issues about Obama's birth certificate problems at the forefront of her activities?"

"Witness the mainstreaming of Orly Taitz?
The longtime Birther agitator and dentist who is now running for the GOP secretary of state nomination in California was a "special guest" of the Republican Jewish Coalition at the group's "annual summer bash" at the Beverly Hills Hilton Sunday. Also in attendance: GOP heavyweights Karl Rove, former Senator Norm Coleman, and California Senate candidates Chuck DeVore and Carly Fiorina.
The program for the event, touted by Taitz on her website, lists about 15 "Special Guests" including Coleman, Reps. Connie Mack (R-FL), Mary Bono Mack (R-CA), Edward Royce (R-CA), and Taitz. Speakers included Rove, who gave the keynote and Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) (with whom Taitz is already acquainted).
An RJC staffer confirmed the program posted by Taitz is authentic. RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks was not immediately available for comment."
