1. I believe I read on DU that there were over 56,000 oil wells
in the Gulf

2. I read something similar also. I believe there are distinctions made
between drilled wells: actively producing vs. capped, non-producing or no longer producing.

Also, shallow water wells vs. the deep water wells.

I don't remember the breakdown, but I did bookmark this post with some EXCELLENT maps of the area.
