Gov. Haley Barbour in Pascagoula today for academy groundbreaking

PASCAGOULA, Miss. -- Gov. Haley Barbour will be in Jackson County today for the groundbreaking of the Maritime Trades Academy to be built near Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding's Pascagoula yard.

The $20 million shipbuilding and metal trades academy, to be built on 9 acres on the west side of Jerry St. Pé Highway, will help Northrop and other local shipbuilders expand their apprentice schools.

Barbour will be the keynote speaker at the groundbreaking at 2 p.m.

Other speakers include Pascagoula Mayor Robbie Maxwell, Jackson County Board of Supervisors President Mike Mangum, Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding President Mike Petters and Irwin F. Edenzon, vice president and general manager of Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding's Gulf Coast sector.

The federal funds that will be used to build the school come from a Hurricane Katrina community development block grant.

These good ole boy teabagger types like Haley Barbour always swear they hate big Gubmint except when big Gubmint is doling out the cash to them. Then big Gubmint is all good. Anyone else notice that?
