Congresswoman Maxine Waters Says Comcast Tried To Bribe Her To Buy Support For The Comcast-NBC Deal

Interesting tidbit from the LA Times about how Comcast is lobbying Congress for permission to control all sides of the TV business and keep your cable bill sky-high for decades (a.k.a., buy NBC):

At one point in the Waters volunteered that she had received a call from "somebody at Comcast asking, 'What do you want?'"

Waters said she responded by stressing the need for diversity of voices in the media, and that the Comcast person said, "I'm talking about what do you want?"

Asked after the hearing for details about her phone call with Comcast, Waters declined to elaborate. "We go no further," she said.

1. I wish those goddamn thieving sons of bitches would ask me what I want.
They can't even send me an accurate bill. Unfortunately I can't dump them, because the only other option for internet access here is the local phone monopoly's DSL service. And those crooks want me to pay a $300 deposit, and after that, would charge me the same amount Comca$t is, for slower speed.

Diversity of voices indeed. Diversity of choices. More than two shitty overpriced options in any given market.

3. Too bad. She should have said "Hold, please" and called the FBI right away on another line
Of course, it's not impossible that the Feds would arrange it so that Maxine came out looking like a bribetaker, since Comcast like AT&T are now critically important partners of FBI-CIA-NSA in the electronic Police State.

4. Our glorious democracy
has been thrown to the wolves-in-sheeps-clothing by weaker congressfolk than Maxine Waters.

representative of the people.
I've admired everything she's done, and the speeches she's made.

7. This may not be related to the O.P. but the other day I saw a brief advertisement
warning that "Free T.V." was now under threat, I just caught the tail end of it.

Kicked and recommended.

Thanks for the thread, Donnachaidh.
