Sharron Angle Floated '2nd Amendment Remedies' As 'Cure' For 'The Harry Reid Problems'

Sharron Angle, the Tea Party candidate turned Republican primary winner in Nevada, has taken heat for a number of extreme affiliations and policy positions. One of the more outlandish was a statement she made during a radio interview last January in which she floated the idea that the public would bring down an out-of-control Congress with "Second Amendment remedies."

Since the clip surfaced, courtesy of the Plum Line's Greg Sargent, there has been no comment from the Angle campaign. The candidate herself spent much of Tuesday rubbing elbows with Republicans on the Hill and avoiding the media. In the interim, however, the Huffington Post has been forwarded more evidence demonstrating the candidate's apparent comfort with the notion of armed insurrection against the government.

In an interview she gave with conservative talk show host Bill Manders earlier in the campaign, Angle conspicuously floated, once again, "Second Amendment remedies" to deal not just with the supposedly ever-growing "tyrannical" U.S. government, but to replace her now general election opponent: Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).

Angle: I feel that the Second Amendment is the right to keep and bear arms for our citizenry. This not for someone who's in the military. This not for law enforcement. This is for us. And in fact when you read that Constitution and the founding fathers, they intended this to stop tyranny. This is for us when our government becomes tyrannical...

Manders: If we needed it at any time in history, it might be right now.

Angle: Well it's to defend ourselves. And you know, I'm hoping that we're not getting to Second Amendment remedies. I hope the vote will be the cure for the Harry Reid problems.

Manders cut to break after the statement. So there was no expansion on Angle's proclamation. Prior to that sound bite, however, Angle hinted that she was likely carrying a concealed .44 magnum model 29 during the interview.

"Whoa," said Manders, "you're not carrying that today are you in here?"

"Well," Angle replied, "you know, as part of your test, they always say, 'Don't ever tell anybody if you're carrying because the bad guys don't need to know if you're carrying.' That's what makes that (sic) concealed carries effective."

As for the notion of "Second Amendment remedies," there is a certain sliver of conventional wisdom that holds that positions like these aren't all that unappealing to the decidedly pro-gun, libertarian-streaking voters of Nevada. For what it's worth, even Manders -- a decidedly conservative voice -- suggested during a later show that Angle needs to moderate her views in order to win election -- though it's unclear if that includes her position on armed insurrection.

1. If a "radical leftist" said "We need a second amendment remedy", he would be tried for treason

How do they get away with it?

2. How is that not political suicide? Why isn't his opponent using this to his advantage?
Furthermore, what is Obama going to do if people like this take over Congress? We need to be reminded who started the problem! The Republican Party cannot continue on this path forever.

4. It's frustrating. We can draw a straight line from Reagan all the way to all the problems we face.
Yet, our leaders have no will for making that case. They continue to flirt with and, in some cases, outright advocate for the insanity he foisted on us.

Angle is nuts. I really have hope Reid will pull this off. I live in a very red part of Nevada and a lot of folks here are of the 'anyone but Reid' ilk. But there are ads running against her showing she advocates for demolishing SS and Medicare and her more extreme positions. That will help, I think.

5. I think it would have been better if someone had beaten Reid in the primary
That way they wouldn't be screaming about Reid and would be facing somebody else who would be a different person. I like Reid, but I would rather have somebody else win against this nut job than deal with yet another brand of Bachmann/Palin stupidity.

7. Lol. He really had no opposition in the primary. I'm pulling for Harry to win.
We have a lot of nut jobs in the north (where I, unfortunately, live) but there are more liberal people in the south (Vegas).

A lot of people get it that Harry's seniority in the Senate helps our state. Most also know he was the single most important person in defeating Yucca mountain.

Angle is in favor of the Yucca mountain project which will not set well with Vegas-less than 90 miles from the site AND the most populous area in the state. She's not the brightest bulb in the box.

9. Ridiculous.
Reid is the Senate Majority Leader. Why would the Nevada Democratic Party want to pull support from him and run an unknown?

Reid has been in the Senate a long time. Nevadans know who he is. Now it is true that emotions run high in elections, and that Nevada has more than its share of gun-toting conservatives. But somehow Reid has managed to be elected again and again. His position in the Senate ensures that he can bring home the bacon for Nevada, and people here know it.

Given that his opponent is Sharon Angle, and barring some unforeseen political disaster, I think Reid is a good bet to win in November.

And he is not sitting on his hands either. Please see this article in the Las Vegas Sun, regarding the veracity of an ad he is running against Angle:

(The verdict in the article: you can't fault the ad's veracity, she said this stuff.)

3. They always think they're being clever when they try and hide their violent intent, but
they're not clever, and they're not hiding it at all.
