Bye Bye Hayward
<snip>
Mr Svanberg also confirmed that BP chief executive Tony Hayward would be handing over the day-to-day response to BP managing director Bob Dudley.

1. So?
A toilet is still a toilet, even after you flush your shit down. Don't think for a minute he wasn't doing his job ashe was supposed to, and that his replacement wont continue to do the same

9. ... and it's not like he has to give back all his salary and bene's ....
.... he's gonna be a well-kept man for a long time, for falling on the sword on international television, non-committal as he was.

as much as I am glad to see him go

3. Pat Buchanan had a good take on Hayward's 'testimony'. BP is under criminal
investigation, he couldn't give any information that could be used against them in case there are charges. He kept his cool and took the hits. Just as he'd undoubtedly been instructed by BP's legal team. That makes sense.

Saw the MSNBC reporter from London (you probably did, too!) who said that the COB's announcement didn't include praise for Hayward, in fact he said that Hayward had said things that upset the American people (this from the guy who referred to the "small people").

They would have been smarter to have an American be the point guy from the outset. We'll still hate him, I'm sure, but he's unlikely to make the same kind of PR errors Hayward did. He'll still be a company shill, though.

Also, she said that the COB is going to be more involved, too -- I'm not sure that's wise.

Anyway yes -- good riddance to Tony!

17. Yes, it was nice theater.
Hayward got to earn his golden parachute, and Congress got to look outraged in front of the voters. Except for one dumb Republican who didn't get the "time to pivot" memo.

18. Yeah, there were some reporters saying that before it started -- what it actually
would be was getting their campaign sound bites ready.

Kind of cynical, but I know there's some truth to that.

But there were several people who were sincerely, truly upset and angry - (mostly Dems).

4. I wonder if that's good or bad.
He was a lousy spokesperson, but I doubt he was calling the shots. Now they are getting someone who learned from his PR mistakes. The new guy will do the same things, but make better statements about them, and it will delay the whole thing even longer while we figure out he's gaming us.

8. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
I was walking out the door when the phone rang - It showed that the Republican Party was calling - I never stopped, however when I did return I listened partly to the message they left - "something about Charlie Melancon not being at the meeting..." but I lost it - the voice on the phone was very very British... and I thought, isn't that sweet - the Republican Party is useing the British to get their message to those of us on the Louisiana coast (I'm 20 miles out of New Orleans). Another attempt at the dumbing of America!

13. Not sure how...
the fishermen will take it now, but years ago, it would not have been taken good - They were a tough group who would not have appreciated being played by anybody. But, now we are a... ugh... red state... so I just don't know! 'tears'

10. Have to get used to a new target. How about this: Dudley Dowrong?
But he likely won't run his mouth like Hayward did.
