Five US-led soldiers killed, three feared captured
05-12-2007

Five US-led troops were killed on Saturday in a pre-dawn insurgent attack south of the Iraqi capital that left three soldiers missing and feared captured, the military said.

US spokesman Major General William Caldwell said a team of seven American soldiers and an Iraqi army interpreter was attacked 12 miles (20 kilometres) west of Mahmudiyah at around 4:44 am (0044 GMT).

"As a result of this attack, five soldiers were killed in action and three are currently missing," he said, without specifying whether the dead were all US soldiers or whether the Iraqi interpreter was among those killed.

"At the time of the attack, a nearby unit heard explosions and attempted to establish communications, but without success," he said in a statement.

"Coalition forces arrived within an hour, secured the site, and immediately initiated a search. The names of the soldiers are being withheld pending final identification and notification of next of kin," he said.

2. Well, at least they're saying "captured" instead of "kidnapped."
Oh, wait--this isn't an American publication.

3. Lucky?
It would appear the lucky ones are dead. I guess we'll see what "their" torture tactics are.

4. The story is mis-leading. It wasn't
5 US-led soldiers...it was a contingent of 7 US soldiers and 1 Iraqi. To call it US led infers there were more Iraqis in the group and that the US was just leading the group. For those who never read beyond the first sentence or two, the real story is camoflaged.

6. I'll give this story about 2 days before the administration brings ........
Iran into the equation. I'm beginning to understand the Republican mindset of 'It's all Clinton's fault' on things. When it comes to the Iraqi war, 'It's all Irans fault'. :eyes: Hope those 3 soldiers are hiding out and get back safely to their unit. Peace.

7. This cuts to the quick. Every death in this war has has been
an unnecessary tragedy but those since the "Surge" are even more poignant because they are caused simply by the continuing stupidity, stubborness, arrogance, and delusion that our politicians are either unwilling or unable to stop. Out NOW, not 2008, but NOW.
