White people to NAACP: time to disband
http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/joan_walsh/politics/2010/07/15/white_people_tell_naacp_to_disband/index.html

Ben Jealous, give it up. Your organization, the NAACP, is no longer needed. How do I know? I read it in a press release today from a group of "Nevada Conservative Leaders and Grassroots Activists," which told me that "In 2010, the NAACP has outlived its usefulness." Thanks, white people!

(...)

But the ever-vile Mark Williams, a spokesman for Tea Party Express Inc., outdid all of his right-wing colleagues, comparing the NAACP to slave traders when it comes to exploiting blacks:

You're dealing with people who are professional race baiters, who make a very good living off of this kind of thing. They make more money off of race than any slave trader ever. It's time groups like the NAACP went to the trash heap of history where they belong, with all the other vile racist groups that emerged in our history.

Then Williams outdid himself, with a mock letter to President Lincoln from Ben Jealous, asking for a return to slavery:

Colored People have taken a vote and decided that we don't cotton to that whole emancipation thing. Freedom means having to work for real, think for ourselves, and take consequences along with the rewards. That is just far too much to ask of us Colored People and we demand that it stop!...

Perhaps the most racist point of all in the tea parties is their demand that government "stop raising our taxes." That is outrageous! How will we Colored People ever get a wide screen TV in every room if non-coloreds get to keep what they earn? Totally racist! The tea party expects coloreds to be productive members of society?

Williams, you'll recall, is also the guy who said African-Americans were too stupid to get out of the way of Hurricane Katrina: "They didn't have the necessary brains and common sense to get out of the way of a Cat 5 Hurricane and then when it hit them- stood on the side of the convention Center expiring while reporters were coming and going" (h/t Crooks and Liars).

Nope. There aren't any racists in the Tea Party movement. Will any Tea Party leader condemn Williams? I'm not holding my breath. Sarah Palin?

2. Poor Williams, he's freaking out like Limbaugh and the rest.
Surrounded by Blacks. Blacks to the left, Blacks to the right. Blacks in the White House, Blacks in golf, Blacks coaching sports teams, Blacks anchoring news. All excelling, prospering.

What's a bigot to do?

Give it up losers, the demographics have changed, and will never be the same again. Your rule is O-V-E-R.

4. It is because of the Limbaughs, Becks, McConnells,
Boehners, Cheneys, Palins, Teabaggers, etc., etc., that the NAACP is still needed, despite the demographics.

3. What they're REALLY afraid of is a Black and Brown coalition.
Strength in unity and numbers, you know. *evil cackle* Presente.org and Color of Change have joined forces on a few occasions. }(

5. The teabaggers are delusional
These idiots can't even see racism and they have the nerve to whine about the NAACP calling them out for it. :eyes: I guess that "racism", to the teabaggers, means having to acknowledge that people of color are people with rights, just like them.

They actually say that they have more to offer people of color than the NAACP? Next stop on the Teabagger Express--Crazytown!

6. We need the NAACP.
They're the only ones who are on the ready with a team of lawyers to handle the discriminatory practices. Unfortunately, Hispanics are not as united as people think they are, or they would have the same kind of organization in place.
