"President Sarah Palin?" Here's why I'm not laughing.
This week’s Time Magazine has a puff piece on Palin that actually takes her as a serious presidential contender.

And I just received an email from The Nation magazine in which one of the articles also considers her a serious contender.

If these two articles are the only ones I've caught, it seems likely that there are many more I've missed.

It seems that many Americans have crossed over the line marked “INSANITY.” The fact that this woman could be a serious presidential contender is a few steps beyond sheer madness.

Then again, this country twice elected an amiable imbecile named Ronald Reagan as president. But his know-nothingness wasn't quite as obvious as hers.

Nonetheless, the concept of enough Americans voting to put Palin in the White House absolutely boggles the mind.

I’m keeping my passport up to date, but I’d like to hear your thoughts on this. Do you believe Americans are incredibly stupid enough to walk off this particular cliff?

37. That might be enough to propel her to eke out the GOBP nomination,
and anything could happen after that. Think "un-verifiable" voting.

4. She isn't going to run so I don't know why people keep bringing it up
She is a quitter,

Can't handle having her life under a microscope (I.E. quit being gov. because of investigations (remember trooper-gate?))

And, is pretty much just lazy, wants a talking gig on Faux News,

Oh wait, she's already got that as a "contributer"...

She is not running...

41. I think you are right ...
... I do think she'd got a lot of votes, but I don't think she'll run. She can't handle the pressure, the scrutiny and quite frankly, the work if elected. Plus, she's getting rich as a "pundit."

17. But the general population did not pay attention enough to Reagan and Bush to see
they were idiots. The media helped promoted them as serious choices for red-blooded 'Merican Men. The media has been helping to ridicule Palin since the Couric interview so the general population understands that she is a colorful moron. A campaign by her will go nowhere.

34. I think Reagan's problem was he had Alzheimer's.
And the republicans knew it. But he had charisma and they wanted a president so they ran him. You can see how he acted so stupid. Stopping in the middle of a press conference. Walking off the stage at odd moments. I think he was a stooge just like Bush jr was. they didn't run the country someone else did.

7. Of course the media would LOVE to see her run for president. They would also love a plane crash....
or a Tsunami to wipe out all of Hawaii. They all profit on disasters and Palin running for President would be a disaster. Doesn't mean she will win but it's their job to make the best story possible and a Palin 2012 ticket would make all of the news media viewership skyrocket.

There's no way in a million years that Lindsey Lohan would be President either but if she ran...holy sh*t, the media would make Million$$#$$$$$$$

11. I really think the press is pushing this crap because they need
to sell copies.

And she stirs everyone up (either positively or negatively) and the ensuing hubbub sells copies.

I do not think the majority of Americans sees her as anything but a complete idiot. I really don't.

We need to keep an eye on this stuff, and on her, but I'm really not worried...

“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.” - H.L. Mencken

13. My passport is also up to date
and I could leave on a moment's notice. When a nation is seriously considering a disaster like a Palin presidency, the prospect of locking one's front door and leaving one's possessions behind becomes an attractive one.

Nations seem to take leave of their collective senses periodically. I keep hoping that Stupid represented the worst of our recent run of insanity.

However, since he was never really elected, just cheated into office twice, I know that there still might be some insanity to work through.

25. That awful Kathleen Parker did a piece on her the other day
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/07/13/AR2010071304635.html

This woman is not to be feared or loathed. She is to be taken with a grain of humor and a dash of admiration. A different version of Madonna, she's a public relations machine who manipulates public perception with well-timed and, recently, sophisticated messaging.

In the nearly two years since she became the first female Republican vice presidential candidate, Sarah has morphed from a pit bull with lipstick to a mama grizzly. Grrrrrrrr.

Her newest YouTube hit, recently released by her political action committee, SarahPAC, is a montage of video clips from various speeches. Jaw-juttingly patriotic and estrogen-rich, not to mention cute as a button, Sarah rallies her fellow grizzlettes to show Washington a thing or three come November.

The genius of Sarah's message, whatever it is, is that it doesn't matter what it is. Of course Americans want their country back. We'd prefer that China not own us. Most don't like unfunded federal mandates, takeovers or bailouts. Except when it benefits us directly.

The debates would be priceless. Palin's unfavorables are off the charts. She has no chance in a general election. If she's smart (she's not), she'd never run for office outside a dark red state.

It's hard to imagine someone moving from the "no" to the "yes" column on Palin, and since everyone in America has heard of her, she's already attracted everyone there is to attract. Now, she will gradually lose support as she slights or offends one or another splinter group of wingnuts.

Has everyone forgotten FL 2000? Ohio 2004? The Rethuglican controlled, easily programmable electronic voting (cheating machines) are in place all over the country. Rove is still on the loose. It doesn't take money, brains or ability to win. All takes an R next to your name and election fraud. :banghead:

36. Just keep thinking about the primaries and how much trouble she'd have getting past any average
contender.

Oh, and then there's the press.

They can only prop her up for so long before they start looking as foolish as she does.

No one will want to touch her at some point.

Plus, we have yet to see her biggest gaffe, I'm certain.

She just can't pull it off.

The intellectual divide between her and some legit contender would be glaring to say the least.

Even, eventually, to her brain-dead supporters.

Mitt Romney
Newt Gingrich
Bobby Jindal
Tim Pawlenty
Dick Armey
Rudy 9ui11iani
Bob Ehrlich
Michael Steele

The press?? They want her in the race so that they can make even more money. They'll make sure she gets at least through the primaries.
