Okay, well, if you don't like his music, you just don't. That's another matter. But...

http://www.fox10tv.com/dpp/news/gulf_oil_spill/wildlife-rescue-boat-donated-by-jimmy-buffett

The popular entertainer has donated a boat to help recover oil-soaked wildlife. The boat, built by Dragonfly Boatworks in Vero Beach, Fla., was designed specifically to navigate the shallow waters and marshes of the Gulf Coast to retrieve injured wildlife.

The boat will play an important role in the efforts of Alabama Unified Command to ensure that local wildlife are rescued and transported to rehabilitation centers.

The vessel was given to the Friends of the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge, a non-profit organization that supports Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge is located in coastal Alabama and is managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

1. I say every little bit helps, and I think it's great that he is helping out.

2. He's always been good on environmental stuff. His work with the manatees is legendary.
Buffett has been involved in many charity efforts. In 1981 the Save the Manatee Club was founded by Buffett and former Florida governor Bob Graham.<9> The Save the Manatee Club is one of the world's most aggressive, confrontational and leading<10> West Indian Manatee preservation efforts. In 1989, legislation was passed in Florida that introduced the "Save the Manatee" license plate, and earmarked funding for the Save the Manatee Club. One of the two manatees trained to interact with researchers at Mote Marine Laboratory is named Buffett after the singer.

The "Singing for Change" foundation was initially funded by proceeds from Buffett's 1995 concert tour, and provides grants to local charities in three main areas: children and family causes, environmental causes, and causes for disenfranchised groups.<11><12>

On November 23, 2004, Buffett raised substantial money at his "Surviving the Storm" Hurricane Relief Concert in Orlando, Florida to provide relief for hurricane victims in Florida, Alabama and the Caribbean affected by the four major hurricanes that year.<13>

Buffett performed in Hong Kong on January 18, 2008 for a concert that raised US$63,000 for the Foreign Correspondents' Club Charity Fund. This was his first concert in Hong Kong and it sold out within weeks. Not only did Buffett perform for free, but he also paid for the concertgoers' tequila and beer.<14>

In addition, many Parrothead club activities are focused on charity work, although Buffett is not directly involved with them.

Not me, (100+ shows before Jerry died) ...but, certainly you will hear it if you bring 'em up in a thread.

Jimmy Buffet, OTOH, did a nice cover of Scarlet Begonias not that long ago on one of his albums. His stuff isn't my taste per se, but he seems to have a good attitude about things.

They all seem to be Buffet fans...

:)

Kidding of course! Buffet's music doesn't do anything for me, but it's still a good thing he has done, and he deserves respect for it.

14. Jimmy also took a lot of crap for saying that the oil spill was BushCheeney's fault...
He lost a lot of redneck fans for that. What does he care? After 30 yrs he's still one of the top music tours every year, has a restaurant and now hotel empire and even is a successful writer. He can stand to lose some mouth breathers.

Long time fan of his music, and love it that he also cares about the environment.

19. Good use of his money, property and good name.
Protecting all that he, and others, hold dear. He sings about his love of beaches and the water. He has addressed other liberal causes.
He is a good man.

That said, his music is the anti-chemp. Drives me bat-shit insane.

26. I love Buffett
My favorite song is "A Pirate Looks At Forty".

I've seen a bunch of negative crappola written on Facebook pages about his involvement in the Gulf disaster. Good grief. With this mess, we need all of the help we can get. Thank goodness, there are people like him, who actually DO something instead of siting on their fat arses doing NOTHING and complaining about others that are trying to help.

Go, Jimmy!
