A forward from a friend from the German FBI, and a word on justice and political extremism
My friend in Berlin is involved with security issues for the Jewish community in Berlin and sent me this.
I edited it a little, as it was meant to be a chain message, and I didn't want to post that.

The cartoon at the end has a great message:

The world hasn't just become wicked...it' s always been wicked.

Irena Sendler

There recently was a death of a 98 year-old lady named Irena.

During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the Warsaw ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist.

She had an 'ulterior motive'.

She KNEW what the Nazi's plans were for the Jews (being German).

Irena smuggled infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried and she carried in the back of her truck a burlap sack, (for larger kids).

She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto.

The soldiers of course wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the kids/infants noises.

During her time of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants.

She was caught, and the Nazi's broke both her legs, arms and beat her severely.

Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar, buried under a tree in her back yard.

After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived it and reunited the family.

Most had been gassed. Those kids she helped got placed into foster family homes or adopted.

Last year Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize.

She was not selected.

Al Gore won --- for a slide show on Global Warming.

63 years later

In MEMORIAM - 63 YEARS LATER

Please read the little cartoon carefully, it's powerful.

Now, much as I love Al Gore, if I had known about this lady, I would have supported her getting the prize as well!

2. Why did it take so long for her to get nominated??
It's not really Al Gore's fault. The committee should have nominated her years ago

4. Not at all Al Gore's fault.
This woman has been overlooked by history, and unfortunately died before she ever got the hero status she deserved.

3. Link to "Life in a Jar" project...
I thought I had heard of Irena before so I googled and found this...
http://www.irenasendler.org/

If we all did our part to stop global warming, the world could surely be a better place. But if we all did our part to emulate Irena Sendler's courage, the world would be a paradise. Let's never forget.

7. The OP was about Irene Sendler and the point the cartoon made.
It was not about Al Gore, whose mention was peripheral at most.

12. Then why didn't you excise the Al Gore BS before forwarding it?
Just celebrate Ms. Sendler. Using her story of courage for potshots against political opponents is beyond crass.

19. Streitsüchtig much?
I'll dare say I've spent more time one on one with Al Gore than you have, and hardly
consider him a political opponent--more like an ally. But I'd bet (I haven't asked him)
that he would have ceded the Nobel to her himself, had he known.

21. OK, I'll give you the benefit of doubt
and attribute this to tone-deafness.

Take another look at the text. Gore is the punchline. It is an attack.

26. It's from a guy in England, and my German friend admires Gore as much as I do
Believe me, it is not an attack. It was to honor the lady in question, nothing more.

Thanks for the benefit of the doubt, but as for tone-deafness, I didn't see an attack on anyone
with the possible exception of the Nobel Committee. I was one of the few who held out hope, until
I heard it from Al Gore standing two feet in front of me, that he might run again in 2008. If I
had detected any trace of an attack on him, I promise you I would never have posted it.

9. I had not heard her story, my dear DFW...
However, I had seen the cartoon...and it is as you say: Powerful.

Thank you for posting this.

I wish there were some way she could receive the Nobel Peace Price, posthumously.

Recommended, very highly.

10. Nor had I, which was surprising to me
You'd think being in Europe all this time, someone would have mentioned her to me. I was clueless.

I'll have to ask my wife, but I'll bet she has never heard of this woman either. It makes me wonder
how many other unsung heroes and heroines are waiting for their stories to be told?

11. Thank you for sharing Ms Sendler's story

I had never heard of her before.

I have a feeling we'll be hearing about stories from WWII for a very long time.

And yes, by all that is truly just, she should have won the NP when Al was still in school, or any of us born after the war for that matter.

13. Inspiring story. It makes one wonder what Ms. Sendler's reaction to living in USA 2010 would be...
Today, the enemies are not so clearly defined, nor is "safety". I wonder what response the 1940s era Ms. Sendler would have to living in the USA, 2010.

14. She'd certainly hate that she's being used as a prop in spam RW e-mails.
Am I the only one who realizes this chain e-mail is not about her or about remembering the Holocaust, but taking a potshot against Al Gore and the fight against global warming?

I think he's a hypocrite/phoney. (Notice the 2 SUVs parked in front of Al Gore's mansion!)

It was more to point out that an unknown was not necessarily less deserving, nothing more.

But read into it what you want.

But it's all good when crap like this is said about Gore, right? :eyes:
