1. Like residents of Vermont,
does this mean residents of Arizona will no longer be able to carry in other states?

2. Like VT & AK one can get a permit for respiprocity purposes.
No permit required for local carry.
Permit required for reciprocity with other states.

3. It's all fodder for the Chicken Little crowd
The Sun will come up in the morning, and it will set in the evening. Nothing that matters is going to change.

7. No, it is a big issue, and other states will follow because the justice department is not taking
this fight seriously enough

It is an attack against civil rights

8. Justice Dept isn't taking conceal carry seriously?
The OP lumped together two totally unrelated topics and the link was for CCW.

15. The Justice Department didn't file in district court until July 6? What took them so long
I am referring to the immigration law, not the concealed weapon

19. Meh, the 'civil rights' stuff is easy to fix. Just check everyone's INS
status when they run tags and licenses for wants/warrants.

11. It will be interesting to
see what happens over the next few weeks. As a kid I remember seeing horses tied to the hitching posts and some folks with guns in holsters. This of course was in old town Scottsdale and back in the 1960's. :D Fast forward to 2010 - No more horses on the streets but perhaps more guns.

12. If more people carry guns concealed, you won't notice any difference
Unless they conceal their guns poorly.

Including CCW changes to the immigration bill is silly.

17. How does a concealed weapon intimidate anyone?
Edited on Wed Jul-28-10 11:17 AM by Statistical
More specifically how does a concealed weapon without a permit intimidate someone more than a concealed weapon with a permit?

Conceal carry is available in 48 states. It is "shall issue" or no permit required in 40 states.

so please don't flip, I'm not knocking CC.

It was two separate bills.

Immigration bill

totally unrelated CCW modification bill

I was merely pointing out the OP combined two unrelated things as if that somehow makes cactus bad. AZ has cactus too. Is cactus now racist because cactus and the immigration bill both exist in AZ?

It is a weak and poorly constructed 'guilt by association'.

24. Yes, they're two separate bills. And you may have a point
about associating them. On the other hand, both bills were passed in this session and will be twinned in the public's mind.

To my mind, in this climate, the last thing AZ should be doing is lowering the bar for how thoughtful people need to be when handling weapons. Whatever.

6. and the justice department hasn't fast tracked this which is disgusting
Once this becomes AZ law, other states will follow, then will Holder pull his head out and say we should be fighting this more vigorously?

After California passed medical marijuana, the bush administration had no problem with raids on distributors of medical marijuana. They justified it by saying it was a violation of Federal Law

We have a direct violation of civil rights, and what do I hear from the AG? Just weak words that we will take it through the courts to judge

WHERE IS THE FEDERAL AUTHORITY PRESIDENT OBAMA?

9. Weak words? The DOJ filed suit to block the law...
seeking to have it thrown out as unconstitutional. Pending adjudication, DOJ asked that the judge stop the law from taking effect, and her ruling is expected today. DOJ took this on despite a lot of opposition. That's hardly "just weak words."

10. AZ is the third state to allow concealed carry without a permit.
VT & AK being the other two.

They still have permits for those wishing to carry to other states.

Edited on Wed Jul-28-10 11:03 AM by Statistical
However a VT resident can however get an non-resident permit in a state like FL which is recognized in 30? states.

AK on the other hand does have an optional permit system. I wonder which route AZ will go?
