Yeah. DU is like that at times. This is a thread for someone special here
He helped me out tonight. In a way that means more to me than I can ever express. A DU'er made sure that I would see my son.

I have a lot going on in my life, more than I am willing to discuss openly. One special DU'er made sure I could see my little boy one more time before he heads off to war.

I have cried more tonight than I have in the last several years. I don't know how to begin to say 'Thank You'. All I can do is post this video and hope you and he and understand how much tonight meant to me.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4P9zLjc0tw

Someone out there cared enough to talk to me on the phone tonight. Cared enough to talk to my little boy. Cared enough to be sure that I would see him before he left to Iraq for 12-18 months.

I am going to see my son in 2 days, it will be the last time for 12-18 months. I missed him so much for years - I did not know where he and his brothers were for 8 years. I used to search the papers where I thought he and they lived hoping to learn their fate. I worried that he might have died.

I am so happy tonight I can barely type. I will see my boy Saturday night. I will hold him again.

Monday, he and I are going to his mom's grave site. It will be hard for him, but thanks to someone special here he and I will be able to do that together.

I just don't know what to say. This week has been terrible, but finally I have a ray of hope in it all.

30. Tears of joy for you
I remember when i went off to the service, back in 1971.

I said good-bye to my Dad, drove off in a government car, headed for Viet Nam.

I forgot some papers, just as absent-minded then as I am today, and had to come home to get them.

As I ran into the house for that 15 seconds to commandeer the papers, I saw my Dad, sitting hands in face, crying.

That hug, that look on his face, the love I felt got me through four years of living hell.

Give your son that love, I know you will, but give him that love.

It was years ago, my Dad is dust in the wind, but I sit here now, crying uncontrollably, remembering those 15 seconds of my life.

I know what it feels like from the other side. I didn't get to see my dad for 17 years. We managed to build some bridges that almost got burnt, but we found peace and friendship before it was too late. For us, it came down to mere weeks, then he was gone.

If not immediately, I know for a fact in time your son will cherish this opportunity like no other he'll ever have. I've walked in his shoes.

51. So happy for your ray of sunshine. I hope that sun shines on
a lot of very special DUers.

When my husband died, DU came through with post after post commiserating with me and making me feel there are people who care, for in the wee hours of the morning when sleep wouldn't come because it was so lonely in my bed, they kept me company, strangers, but truer friends than they could ever know.

A special blessing on the DUers who have heart and aren't afraid to show it; who go to posts where people need encouragement and comfort. These people are my reason for being on this forum, because they are the heart of the Democratic Underground.

For Straight Story:

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord lift his countenance upon you, and give you peace, and give you peace, the Lord lift his countenance upon you and give you peace.

Love and hugs,

Jua

65. If that person wishes it, I will
I offered to pay them back next week, and they would not hear of it.

It is someone well known here and a long time fav Du'er of mine.

Josh will be here tomorrow night! And then me and two of my sons, and my daughter will be together and going to the fair (military folks get in free on Sunday).

3 of my 5 kids all together in one day, having fun.

I PROMISE to take pics. My son is not wearing his fatigues on the ride home, but he said he would put them on for a pic for DU.

And Monday, I am off work - and we are just going to hang out, go to the cemetery, and have a few beers together.

Damn, I can't wait till his plane lands! Tomorrow night seems like forever away.

66. As the Mother of a boy who went to Iraq 2 years ago, I can tell you
that you must have faith, and just believe he will be ok. That is all you can do because as you know, you feel downright helpless to do anything, no control at all... That was the hardest part for me, was letting go of the fact that I no longer controlled what happened to my son.

You will be happy to know he returned home in good shape after a year, and I know your boy will too.

I will be thinking of you and your family, let me know if you need a shoulder...
