Phyllis (I thought she was dead) Schlafly: unmarried women who support Obama are all on welfare
Edited on Fri Jul-30-10 08:56 AM by WI_DEM
should surprise exactly no one:

Conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly took aim at "unmarried women" at a recent fundraiser and in an interview with TPM, saying that they overwhelmingly support President Obama and are all on welfare. Democrats aim to exploit the comments to pressure the more than 60 Republican candidates who have earned Schlafly's endorsement.

"Unmarried women, 70% of unmarried women, voted for Obama, and this is because when you kick your husband out, you've got to have big brother government to be your provider," said Schlafly, president of Eagle Forum and infamous for her opposition to the Equal Rights Amendment.

Phyllis Schlafly bashing women is nothing new. After all, the woman made a career out of saying women shouldn't have careers. Or equal rights.

But now that Republicans have decided to embrace feminism, you'd think they'd be quick to denounce Schlafly for her anti-woman remarks. Which is exactly what Democrats are asking them to do:

This coming from a woman who hasn't changed her hair style for 75 years.

.... at the vindictiveness of the right. They are SO CONCERNED that some tiny portion of welfare benefits might go to someone unworthy or someone they don't like, while IGNORING the billions of dollars poured down war and "national security" ratholes.

Hey Phyllis, the Pentagon just flat LOST $8.7 BILLION. That pays a lot of welfare checks you stupid old git.

9. you wouldn't believe how many still think there are tons of women living off of welfare
the thing is nobody ever could live off of welfare even before welfare reform which has done more harm than help anyway I worked security at a local office temporarily there are FAMILIES who can't find jobs and have exhausted all benefits who are now homeless. they get foodstamps that doesn't pay rent buy hygiene products or anything that isn't edible Welfare reform was a big mistake

21. Every damn one of them should spend a week working the reception desk
at any welfare office in the Country and see how it effects real families Hear the heartbreaking stories of being evicted and their belongings being thrown in the street like garbage by local Law Enforcement having no place to store them so having to pick and choose what memories they can carry on their backs no car so they walk the shelters put them and their children out at 7 am they can't come back until 5 pm My 2 months there sure opened my eyes.

13. I am a divorced woman and a mother and I support Obama. I make about $40K a year.
I pay my bills on my own (and with minimal child support I might add).

Phyllis Schlafly is one person the world would be better off without.

15. Really? Where do I send copies of my last 40 years of tax returns? I'm single and will vote for
Obama again. Psst, Phyllis, I found out 40 years ago that I was a much better provider and I don't need a man to make me a full fledged person!

another way of expressing disdain for any safety net.

Earlier it was Welfare Queens.

18. let me get this math right
51% of us are female and 51% of females are living without a spouse

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_percentage_of_the_female_population_in_America
^snip^

A. 51% (of the population are women)

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/16/us/16census.html?_r=1
^snip^

51% of Women Are Now Living Without Spouse

and the claim that 70% of them are all on welfare

so with a population of over 300 million you end up with over 150 million woman and then over 125 unmarried women

multiply those 125 million unmarried by the 70% number and you get nearly 88 million unmarried women who support Obama and who are all on welfare

Well then this number can't be right!!!

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_percentage_of_people_in_us_are_on_welfare
^snip^
The number stated that receive any portion of their support from from welfare assistance--including food stamps--it is 29,900,000 or roughly 8% of the total population in the United States.

Damn You WIkipedia! How can there be less than 30 million on welfare of any type when there are about 88 million unmarried women on welfare? Somebody is just making this stuff up.
