The Words of My Hero Bobby Kennedy Still ring true and they are worth repeating
Edited on Fri Jul-30-10 10:25 AM by rbrnmw
"People who strike out against injustice show the highest form of courage. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build up a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance." Robert F. Kennedy 1966

1. Some More Wisdom from RFK
"The next priority for change — the first element of a new politics for the United States — is in our policy toward the world. Too much and for too long, we have acted as if our great military might and wealth could bring about an American solution to every world problem..."
-Robert F. Kennedy, 1968

5. That might have been the one that did it.
Taking on the military industrial complex and questioning the wisdom and appropriateness of American Imperialism.

3. I have that in my profile. One of the greatest speeches ever.
It's from his Day of Affirmation speech he gave while in South Africa in 1966. That part of his speech speaks to the hearts and hopes of every person. There are no leaders today who could produce such a remarkable and heartfelt speech.

17. You're right. And a few other appropriate comments...

As I wrote in another post earlier. It's hard to be a human being if a person has no spine, no guts, no heart and no brain. I'm sure I've left out other parts of the anatomy which would also apply.

Did you see the YouTube video of Anthony Weiner giving it to republicans during a house session? Weiner is one of the few with guts in the house or the senate. We need more leaders like him, Grayson & Kucinich, and less cowards like most of the rest. It's not hard to do what is right, but for some reason most democratic officeholders cower in the presence of republicans. They give in and give up as they turn their spineless backs on those who worked their asses off to get them elected. Except for a courageous few the rest of the democratic majority are sharing just one pair of balls, yet another part of the anatomy sorely lacking among democratic 'leaders'.

Anthony Weiner's courageous attack against the soulless republicans:

25. It was predictable. When the republicans imploded the conservatives had to go somewhere
and the fascists had to follow them.

12. Recommended.
Thank you for posting this.

Early this morning, I was considering a topic for my next OP. I was thinking of using a section of another of Robert's best speeches. He remains one of the most inspirational Americans. His vision from his final two years is much needed today.

18. How is pointing out he wiretapped MLK a "bash"?
If it was a good a thing its not a bash, if it was a bad thing then he shouldn't have done it.

People say purdy stuff all the time but its what they do that shows their character at the end of the day. Even * could recite purdy stuff...if it were written for him...and kept to 2 syllables or less...but the wiretapping of innocent Americans kinda negates the purdy.

I just happen to think wiretapping MLK is one of those areas where we need to look closely at why something was done. If there was no probable cause that Dr. King was doing nothing but upsetting an establishment that had become too accustomed to a segregated society then it isn't my job to hush-up just because some people idolize RFK, I think people who idolize RFK should explain why this fact should be overlooked as if wiretapping innocent people suddenly doesn't matter.

19. Hoover put RFK
in a no-win situation. Anyone familiar with this -- including that is was not "wiretapping" -- knows the reason why RFK okayed Hoover's request. More, they know the Kennedy brothers warned MLK.

21. Right.
In fact, he already was bugging (not wiretapping) King before approaching RFK. More, he would actually have illegal wiretaps in later years, during the Johnson administration. I think that anyone with a sincere interest in RFK's role -- as opposed to attempting a cheap smear -- would take the time to become informed on this topic. Hoover's illegal taps on MKL were, of course, in Muhammad Ali's legal case.

26. Rookie to point out mistakes made early in a career and ignore any wisdom gained from experience.
Edited on Sat Jul-31-10 10:01 AM by glitch
But very typical whenever the Kennedy brothers are discussed.

edit: worse than rookie when the wisdom they gained resulted directly in their assassinations.

edit again to be less inflammatory.
