No $3 Million Wedding for Chelsea – and Other Rumors Put to Rest
By Liz McNeil
Friday July 30, 2010 09:00 PM EDT

The town of Rhinebeck, N.Y., is abuzz with preparations and news outlets are clamoring for details, but what's really going on when it comes to the Saturday wedding of former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton and fiancé Marc Mezvinsky?

PEOPLE tracked down some of the juiciest rumors and burning questions:

1. Could it really be costing $5 million?

Not even close. Sources close to the bride's parents, who are paying for the wedding, cast recent tabloid "guesstimates" of a wedding budget between $3 million to $5 million as so grossly fabricated they are unworthy of comment. One longtime family friend said the wedding is not exceeding six figures – so in the hundreds-of-thousands dollar range, not millions...

3. This SUCKS! Its their right to spend it and they wont? We need stimulus and they withhold it?
Edited on Fri Jul-30-10 11:36 PM by Oregone
They can afford it since they are so rich, but they won't spring for their daughter?

So now we just get disparity with no trickling effect? I don't get it. People here insisted this would bestow goodness upon us "lesser" folk. What good are the rich to us now?

5. Whatever is costs is NO ONE'S business, unless they are asked to chip in
If her parents want to spend the money & they have it, it's THEIR business.

6. I'm Betting That's Misinformation

Put out because in times when people are having it rough it seems frivolous and OTT ostentatious. But this wedding is more than 6 figures, guaranteed. They have 800 A list guests (or so I read), the dinner costs alone are huge and that's before we even talk flowers or tents. I say, they have the money and she's their only child so they should give her the best send-off they can. And, a lot of people will make good money off of this and that's great for them. The people of Rhinebeck can use the good fortune that's dropped onto their laps.
