China to invest $40 billion in Iran refineries
Edited on Sat Jul-31-10 02:27 PM by sixmile
http://rawstory.com/rs/2010/0731/china-invest-40-billion-iranian-oil-gas/

'Iran's main economic partner China has invested around 40 billion dollars in the Islamic republic's oil and gas sector, a senior Iranian official said on Saturday.

Deputy Oil Minister Hossein Noqrehkar Shirazi also said that Tehran's oil exports to China fell by 30 percent in the first six months of 2010 compared with the corresponding period last year.

"The volume (of Chinese investment) in upstream projects is 29 billion dollars," Noqrehkar Shirazi told Mehr news agency, adding that Beijing had signed contracts worth another 10 billion dollars in petrochemicals, refineries and oil and gas pipeline projects.

He said China has also put forward proposals to participate in building seven new refineries in Iran.'

Sorry if repost.

Iran's made a BIG new friend.

'In 2009, China became Iran's premier trading partner, with bilateral trade worth 21.2 billion dollars against 14.4 billion dollars three years earlier.

Commercial ties between the two countries were almost non-existent 15 years ago, amounting to just 400 million dollars.'

1. Iran's made a BIG new friend
and China has made themselves an oil rich new friend!

Too bad the USA is so bigoted and hateful. They could have had the same or better deal if they'd quit war mongering and screaming out BOMB BOMB BOMB IRAN.

2. We can't work with the Mullahs, apparently
Everyone else, no problem.

Is it possible, even in the least, that diplomacy and maturity could lead enemies to tolerate each other?

3. I do not consider Iran to be our "enemy"
do tell, what has Iran done? Name one thing please.

The Iranian people are a good people. Too bad that America is so arrogant that they cannot see through their racism. :puke:

4. Wasn't there a hostage crisis?
I remember some US Marines and other Americans being held hostage for over a year in Iran. Many believe played a big part in Reagan getting elected.

6. There was an Islamic Revolution
The hostages were coincidental and no lives were lost. Reagan secretly set up the Mullahs with arms to fight a protracted, bloody with Iraq. They then magically released the hostages right after he took the oath of office.

This was known as Iran/Contra. Read about it, it was a fascinating time.

7. And we supported and put into place the Shah, who was a murderer.
You remember the response to thirty years of oppression, but forgot to mention the root cause:

The United States bailing out British Petroleum from being nationalised.

We reaped the results of that, just as we will from doing the exact same thing in Iraq.

8. sixmile neglected to mention that the US was arming Iraq to fight Iran
... including giving them nerve gas, which they did use on the Iranian soldiers.

Also missed the chance to mention that the revolutionaries took the US embassy hostage demanding a return of the Shah (who was indeed put in power by a CIA coup of a democratically elected Iranian Nationalist, named Mossadeq, or Mossadegh... depending on how the last letter, which is the same as the 'gh' in Afghanistan, is trans-literated)... who was in the US getting cancer treatment... or fled to the US and took the opportunity to get cancer treatment... depending on how conspiratorial a bent your mind has.

Reagan did indeed cut a deal... to sell arms to the new revolutionary government, in exchange for the release of the hostages- but stipulated that they shouldn't be released until Reagan took the oath of office... and, of course, there are pictures of Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam Hussein as he closed deals to sell them weapons to attack that same Iranian revolutionary government that they'd made the deals with... only to then turn around and attack Iraq, twice, when it was convenient.

Ahh, Iran-Contra, First Gulf War, Second Gulf War, Iraq occupation... all goes back to '53 when the Iranians had the audacity to defy BP and try to re-negotiate the deal for the oil, BP's oil in the minds of the UK and US apparently, under the Iranian dirt.

Yup, it all goes back to BP... making a mess of the world for going on 70 years... at the very least. :)
