just skimming the "breaking news" on gonzogate, wolfowitzgate, the occupation, etc., etc., I cannot help concluding our government is officially a train wreck.
The entire executive branch, top to bottom, excepting careerists, is a sham.
Our "foreign policy" is nonexistent - it is just zombies stumbling from meeting to meeting wondering what to do or say next.
The congress is nearly impotent - oh, i applaud the investigations and mildly in-your-face bills, but realistically the most they can do is cry "foul" a lot and maybe peck away at the issue.
The SCOTUS has been loaded up with idealogues who are ready to rubberstamp anything the christian coalition wants.
Fixing this just may not be possible. Between Big Business (see my signature line) and the religious zealots, this country has been taken over in a slow-motion coup.
We are fish flapping on the riverbank while the river of greed and zealotry flows on. We will keep twitching for a while, but we are the "left behind." The 'rapture' has come and we didn't realize it. That smarmy little twit ralph reed from the christian coalition is heir apparent.
We are at a crossroads as a country. We have a 200-plus year history of reasonable success with the "Great Experiment" but it will not continue under current conditions. It is at an end. We will either morph quickly into the mind-control theocracy reed wants - a mass of poverty-stricken serfs working under sweatshop conditions for the select few in the aristocracy - or something akin to the French Revolution will occur. Or perhaps we'll endure a few decades of the former before the latter occurs. I have serious doubts, though, that this mess can be fixed.
If we were a corporation, we'd have been taken over by Carl Icahn or Boone Pickens long ago, all the management fired, and probably broken up and sold off.
