Many of my coworkers view Muslims as not being part of a religious faith but rather a terrorist organization. All Muslims.
But then again many of my coworkers listen exclusively to AM talk radio and FAUX Noise to get their views molded for them.

A work in an ocean of ignorance and willful ignorance (stupidity).

It is the minority of guys (Public Works Maintenance) but sometimes it seems like the majority.

I work with dumbshits who wear Michael Savage shirts ("Liberalism is a mental disease") and another who buys Glenn Beck books.
Keep in mind we are government workers. These are the same public employees the conservatives like Beck and Weiner, love to hate.

I was always amazed at how these guys embraced liberalism (unions, healthcare..etc) when it suited them, then the rest of the time were hardcore cons.

BTW a plurality of the world's muslims are asian. I was in the grocery store today with a woman in full Burka. Trust me. She was NOT arab. Really. NOT. Not Iranian either. Trust me.

Plus I have 20 years in and I am almost 55.

9. America Needs A Boogieman...

Our culture has "evolved" based on some kind of fear or hatred to "unite". Be it the injuns or the blacks and now the Mexicans, racism has served many a political agenda well. Add an external threat like an evil Russian or A-rab "terririst" and you can amp up the fear and inclusiveness. What's happened is an American myopia...a distorted view of our place in the world and those from different cultures. Some call it "American Exceptionalism"...and it's what's led to much of the stereotypes and broadbrushing that is done in the corporate media and exploited by the right wing.

Hate radio echoes what the right wing powers that be feel are the buttons needed to be pushed. But it's not the only source for the distorted image of those of the muslim faith. Being Jewish, I see a great deal of the opposition and sterotyping done among American Jews...especially the Neo-Cons and Likudniks. There's also a lot of this intolerance and hatred being spread by so-called "Christian" radio...many that preach daily to thousands how Islam is an illegitimate religion and its intent is to destroy Christianity and this country.
