11. Many Democrats also support the Second Amendment ...

In key contests, Democrats championing gun rights
Candidates gain favor with NRA

By Susan Milligan
Globe Staff / July 14, 2010

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Democratic candidates in key states are embracing gun owners’ rights, winning favor from the National Rifle Association, a lobby that has long been the target of disdain from the party faithful.

In New Hampshire, Representative Paul Hodes, a Democratic Senate candidate, has an “A minus’’ NRA rating, potentially insulating him from progun rights attacks in a state that’s big on hunting and personal liberties.

Senate majority leader Harry Reid, in a bruising campaign for reelection in Nevada, has conservative activists buzzing because the NRA is considering endorsing his reelection.

Indiana’s Democratic Senate candidate Brad Ellsworth, who has an “A’’ rating from the NRA, may get the group’s endorsement this fall over GOP candidate Dan Coats, whom the NRA criticized in mailings to Hoosiers as being weak on gun rights.

And in Kentucky, Democratic Senate candidate Jack Conway has not only heralded gun rights but also signed friend-of-the court briefs supporting gun owners before two landmark Supreme Court rulings backing their rights in District of Columbia and Chicago cases.

Republican and Democratic gun owners are almost equally likely to say they use a gun for protection against crime, 64% to 69%, respectively. However, Republicans are more likely than Democrats to say they use a gun for target shooting (71% to 53%) or for hunting (64% to 53%).

It does appear that more Republicans own firearms than Democrats. This may be caused by our parties history of pushing draconian gun laws.

Gun Ownership Higher Among Republicans Than Democrats
Republican gun owners also more likely to hunt

February 16, 2006

Republicans are much more likely than Democrats to report having a gun in their home. A majority of Republicans (55%) say they have a gun in their home, compared with 32% of Democrats.

***snip***

Republicans also are more likely than independents or Democrats to say they personally own a gun. About 4 in 10 Republicans (41%) say they own a gun, while 27% of independents and 23% of Democrats say this.

These aggregated data show that Republican and Democratic gun owners are almost equally likely to say they use a gun for protection against crime, 64% to 69% respectively. However, Republicans are more likely than Democrats to say they use a gun for target shooting (71% to 53%) or for hunting (64% to 53%).

While there is plenty of support for the Second Amendment among all the political parties, you don't find any Democrats advocating a "2nd Amendment solution".

Sharron Angle Floated '2nd Amendment Remedies' As 'Cure' For 'The Harry Reid Problems'

Sharron Angle, the Tea Party candidate turned Republican primary winner in Nevada, has taken heat for a number of extreme affiliations and policy positions. One of the more outlandish was a statement she made during a radio interview last January in which she floated the idea that the public would bring down an out-of-control Congress with "Second Amendment remedies."

Since the clip surfaced, courtesy of the Plum Line's Greg Sargent, there has been no comment from the Angle campaign. The candidate herself spent much of Tuesday rubbing elbows with Republicans on the Hill and avoiding the media. In the interim, however, the Huffington Post has been forwarded more evidence demonstrating the candidate's apparent comfort with the notion of armed insurrection against the government.

In an interview she gave with conservative talk show host Bill Manders earlier in the campaign, Angle conspicuously floated, once again, "Second Amendment remedies" to deal not just with the supposedly ever-growing "tyrannical" U.S. government, but to replace her now general election opponent: Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).

7. Speaking of the Constitution
I wouldn't mind some attention being given to the 4th, 5th and 6th Amendments that neither party seems very concerned about in our drive for "security."
