Ok sports fans, my stepdaughter's boyfriend, a soldier stationed at Ford Hood (yes, the one where the Muslim doc went on a rampage), has orders as of today to deploy to Iraq in less than a month. How many here think his unit will instead now get orders to deploy to Afghanistan?

There's going to be 50K there for another 18 months or so. That's a lot of people.

Originally, he was going to accompany the Iraqi soldiers into whatever situations they were ordered into. That's how he explained it to us. He's a sergeant in the infantry and I don't know what his unit is. It can't be good, IMO.

I've also been wondering how many of the troops leaving Iraq are now going to be sent to Afghanistan.

7. He's infantry

His rank is sergeant. I don't know what unit he's with. He has two children from his previous marriage. This thing hasn't really touched us personally until now, and the withdrawal from Iraq could not come at a worse time for he and his fellow soldiers set to deploy in three weeks to Iraq. I really hope he doesn't go anywhere, for the sake of his kids and my stepdaughter. I suppose that is too much to hope for. She doesn't even want to talk about it she's so afraid for him.
