"The Manchurian President" (SPOILERS for the movie Manchurian Candidate)

I'm sure everyone's heard of this odious book which claims that Obama is a Islamo-Commie-Nazi agent. What I find most obnoxious about this book is that it gets the whole point of the original book and movie backwards.

In the Manchurian Candidate, it is not a secret leftist candidate that the Soviets and North Koreans are trying to put in office. In fact, it's a hard-right demagogue (rather closely based on Joe McCarthy) who they are trying to get elected. The reasons are simple: with a right-wing nut as president of the U.S., the Soviets are in a better position to provoke a war, one they think they can win.

So in other words, if the Islamo-Commie-Nazis are trying to control American politics, it would be with an idiotic right-wing, Muslim-bating puppet.
(Bonus hint: in the novel, the McCarthy analogue spends a lot of his pre-political career up North...)
