Those people who showed up for Beck - why they're less than they're being made to appear.
They are not new voters.

They are not some suddenly energized new constituency.

They are not some new political force to be reckoned with.

They are the same very hard right wing nutters who reliably vote for every hard right wing nutter who runs for office. Their presence in DC was simply because someone gave them the opportunity to come and vent and wear stupid costumes with other nutbaggers who went and vented and wore stupid costumes.

If, of the 87,000 said to have showed up there, there are 1,000 new voters for the opposition, I will buy them all lunch.

2. I would wager a sizeable chunk of them had transportation paid for
and accommodations as well. Wonder how many were Mormons or Burchers.

3. and it seems to me...
given how much this was talked up in the weeks leading up to it, including on rival networks, and given how large and outraged the teapotty movement is supposed to be, 87,000 should be an embarrassment for those who organized it.

6. And many of them are on the down hill side of life
And will be dying off in the next couple of decades. Most of what I saw were late middle-aged at best.

I just hope the kids will see the light much like I did. Now my parents wouldn't have been tea partiers but I can't say they weren't bigots especially my dad. I sure could identify with All in the Family growing up.

8. Some will, but many have been damaged by their elders.
It takes several generations to effect real change.

10. Yeah, but it is so much more "mainstream" to say how powerful he is, even when it is .....
..... so easy to show how it is all smoke and mirrors and a tiny man behind a curtain playing with his organ.
